Al's Beef, Chicago

We were hoping for an amazing beef sandwich and what we got was a sawdust sandwich. The beef was meely and dried out. The hot peppers were oily and overpowering. Worst sandwich ever. Man vs. Food had to be lying through his teeth when he ate this one. They only thing that was ok was the fries. Do not go there go any place else for a beef sandwich. We felt so bad that our friend paid this this. Please do not believe the hype about this place. I wanted to give this place 0 stars but the yahoo system did not let me do it, so by defalt it gets a star.

#1- This place is VERY expensive for a small sandwich #2- 3-4 customers were booted in their parking lot after they walked across the street to get money out of the ATM. They needed to get $$$ to pay for the expensive sandwich. #3 The cooks do not wear gloves and after one ran his hand through his hair and then proceeded to pick up fries for an order, I was thoroughly grossed out. #4 - The floor is filthy #5 - The staff were impolite #6- Just a few doors down is Thai Bowl- an excellent charming eatery. Go there and you;ll be thankful.

I still wonder what is the rave about this place. The beef sandwiches are expensive, stringy, and are poorly loaded with beef. Most Chicago area hot dog stands can put together a better beef sandwich. For a chain, Portillos makes a much better sandwich.

i had an urge for italian beef, and what you know, its been satisfied. we walked there, and service was quick, food was as expected (maybe the sausage was a little dry, and not quite as good as portillo's). have to agree, might be a little pricey, but satisfying.

if you like to spend too much money on bad service, bad food and expect everyone to be snootty with you, then this is NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU. Be prepared to come and just eat and get messy. Service, okay. Place to sit indoors, no. Great food with that local feel, then this is the place to be. Just look at the wall while you wait and you will see what I mean.

The servers talk and laugh over the food too much while preparing the sandwiches. I'm not going there anymore.

This one is better than the franchised locations

Al's has the best italian beef in the city. Period. I have been to every possible restaurant in the city that sells beefs, and Al's is the best.

Al's #1 italian beef is great! The meat is so tender and its dipped just right. The hot peppers are ACTUALLY HOT! Its all just tasty. Its very conveniant for those who live near by..However im on the southside of chicago.. but i have NO PROBLEMS in taking a trip..
