Sushi Wabi

Description

In this sophisticated and swanky dining spot simplicity speaks volumes. Fresh fish abounds and delights diners. The rainbow Maki is a signature dish worth trying. Eel tastes so much like chicken that diners will second-guess themselves. Raw fish, salmon roe and Maki rolls are an acquired taste. For the non-raw fish eaters, plenty of fully cooked items like fried pork are available. Red bean ice cream is the prefect ending.

Nothing to say about taste but might be good to take a reservation before any visit. It a nice place for friends. Price was a bit high but except that its a nice place for weekend.

Let's start with service - it was great. No issues whatsoever. Let's continue to atmosphere - loud, dark, loud, cramped, did I mention loud? Not conducive to socializing. Now the food - nicely presented, pretty decent variety and definitely fresh. Started with Ahi Tuna, no surprises there and Japanese Eggplant - quite tasty. Followed with spicy tuna roll - average and Dragon roll - now that was good. We had another dish but I guess I was not that impressed to even remember what it was. Overall, average. I'm not a fan of dark restaurants, I want to see what I'm eating or what may be on the floor I should be aware of.

Over priced dump, Awful Service by shorthanded staff. I dont like the feel of being rushed or that I am bothering the waitstaff with my request because they are overwhelmed. They need more help

There is no comparison to taste in the Chicago area. Go for the Tarantula and a Soft-Shell Crab Handroll. You won't be dissapointed.

Over rated!!!
By Russ Rubis, 6/27/07
The food was good (average/above average), but service was horrible. After waiting to be seated for 30 minutes, I ended up waiting another 20 minutes just to get the attention of my waitress. I got large mori (1 maki and 9 sushi) and it was NOT worth the $28. You can definately get a better value elsewhere. I will not be back at Sushi Wabi :-(

Great place
By Smarter than you, 5/4/07
Just an overall great experience. The service was excellent as was the food. The place was quite busy for a weeknight & I would recommend making a reservation. We had to wait 30 minutes to sit at the sushi bar, but they called us to let us know when they were ready for us...really made us feel like they wanted our business. I'll be excited to return.

Great Sushi
By Amy, 4/22/07
Every dish was amazing- the best seaweed salad, tempura, and sushi I have ever had. Presentation was great too. Small space- make reservations. Great cocktails too.

The best anywhere....
By Robert F, 4/6/07
The absolute best spicy tuna and ebi tempura maki on earth. Their smoked salmon nigiri is killer. A Sushi Wabi loyalist since inception. Great staff and owners as well.

The best sushi ever
By Optimistic, 4/6/07
I've introduced two of my closet friends to sushi at Sushi Wabi. One loved it so much, we were back two days later. Better than NoBu in NYC in my opinion.
