Mama Luigi's Restaurant
From an intimate dinner for two to an elegant banquet, Mama Luigiac2s is the premier choice of the South Suburbs. Family owned and operated since 1948, Mama Luigiac2s combines exceptional Italian fare with a relaxed and elegant atmosphere to create an extraordinary dining experience. For all your celebration needs, Mama Luigiac2s also offers banquet facilities where guests will enjoy sumptuous food in a handsome atmosphere.
The food at Mama Luigi's is excellent! Even the salads that you get with your dinner is exceptional. The blue cheese dressing is the best I have had. We go often and enjoy the quiet atmosphere and great service and great food!.
the food was great, but the service was crap... i had the rudest waitress she was grumpy and you could hear her cursing from the back. I use to love the food and workers, and go frequently. i have not gone back since that waitress. it has been about 3 years now
If you want a good italian food made from family reciepes, this is the place to go !
I personnaly chose shrimp linguini and it was delicious ... just the right amount of everything .. just excellent.
My girlfriend chose alfredo pasta with chicken : it was so tasty that it seems like you never ate Alfredo before !
As a dessert, I highly recommand the tiramisu : the best I ever had (we took 2 to go for the weekend !! ...)
Service and Welcome are excellent.
Don't wait ... GO !!!!
After having read the previous 7 reviews I had to add my two cents. My wife and I have been going to Mama Luigi's for over 10 years. Contrary to one of the reviews their member's rewards programs is the best. Mama's is the only restaurant we know of that has such a program. Personally, I like getting a free entree on my birthday and anniversary
One of the best things at Mama Luigi's is their blue cheese salad. Not only do you get a generous portion of blue cheese dressing you also get a small container of crumbled blue cheese. The salad even has roasted red peppers in it. The only improvement to this salad would be to cut the lettuce into smaller pieces so you can eat it with a fork, instead of a knife and fork.
Their mussels appetizers are the best. The cowboy steak is excellent. follow your meal with their Tiramisu and your visit will be a culinary delight. Should you happen to get Karina as your waitress, your visit will be even better. (Karina you are the best). We have been there many times and have never had a problem with anything.
Should you be there on a Sunday and if Sara is behind the bar, try one of her margaritas. You'll never taste a better one anywhere. (You rock Sara). Saturdays and Sundays also offer one of the best prime ribs I've ever eaten. (try their double cut and enter into food nirvana). My wife and I will continue to eat at Mama Luigi's hopefully for many years to come, especially on Sunday.
Ugh- Avoid this place. It started with burnt bread. The ends looked like they were tossed under a broiler to warm it up and didn't pay attention. We ordered the Chicken Parm w/ shells and I had the portabello Ravioli. These were THE saltiest entrees I have ever had. I couldn't even eat it. When the waitress came by and told her how salty my entree was she did nothing. She just shrugged her shoulders. I could have gotten the same service at McDonalds- AWFUL! I should have listened to my daughter and went to KFC.
When I arrived here from Miami 4 years ago, we went to your restaurant and thought the food and service were excellent. Now, every time we go there, something's always disapointing with the food. They used to make a great stuffed eggplant but the last time we ordered it, there was no stuffing. We told the waitress Cindy about it and nothing was done. I like to go out and enjoy my dinner so I will visit a restaurant called Papa Joe's. The food is always GREAT and ENJOYABLE.
I have been coming to this restaurant for over 30 years and the food just keeps getting better!!! They have recently added a few new items to the menu and the way to describe it is simply scrumptious!
We have had many family celebrations there everything from a surprise birthday party to a wedding in the banquet room. But last Friday night we spent the evening in the cozy dinning room with a few good friends, great food, and spirits.
Our favorites are the Calamari so yummy and tender, the Baked Clams are very good too, then the Lobster Bisque Soup, and for the main dishes I had the Chicken Breast Vesuvio and my husband had the New York Strip Steak which were both scrumptious. Then…yes we ate more! We had the Flourless Chocolate Cake and the Tiramisu both absolutely wonderful.
Bottom line the portions are large, the food is great, the service is impeccable and the price is well worth it. We will be coming back for another 30 years!
We, too, had been to Mama Luigi's years ago, and not being a fan of Italian food, we hadn't been back until this summer. We had gotten a gift card for our anniversary, used it this summer and have been going back almost once a week since. We just had our son and his wife and kids there for their anniversary this week and my son, who has eaten in restaurants all over the world, thought the cowboy steak was one of the best he ever ate. My husband, a fussy eater and sometimes demanding customer, loves to go there. The food is delicious, there is a lot more than just pasta and red sauce, the portions are huge - and we almost always bring home doggie bags. The wait staff is sometimes stretched, but always in good humor, and we always enjoy our visits there.
My family used to love coming to Mama Luigi's. In the 1990s it had a full and active wait staff, multiple free appetizers including a veggie platter, foccacia bread, and cracker/breadstick basket. Portions were large and served hot. Each visit was saved for a special occasion, because that's how we regarded the restaurant in general. However, at some point in the past few years, things changed for the worse, and are still in obvious free-fall.
Nowadays the wait staff is terribly undermanned and inept, ubiquitous rock-hard bread attempts to replace the fresh freebies mentioned above, and portions have noticeably shrunk. The owners try to cover up such inadequacies with birthday and gas(oline) promotions, increasing superficial value, but any self-respecting diner will immediately regret having taken the bait. Not to mention, karaoke in the bar detracts from what is already a cheesy, hardly authentic environment, and bathroom cleaner stinks up the entire non-smoking section.
In all, I would not recommend Mama Luigi's to anyone I care about. Let the witch of a manager/hostess be a forewarning: spend your money elsewhere.
Mama Luigi's is a wonderful restaurant. Although the decor is simple, the food is exquisite, and the portions are generous. We always leave with leftovers. The marinara sauce that they serve with their bread basket is just delicious, and the variety of breads is a carb-lovers dream come true. We have never had a bad meal there, and the service is comparable to what we've received from far more expensive restaurants in downtown Chicago. The atmosphere is friendly, but not overbearing. Their lattes are better than what you get at the coffee chains, and desserts are also excellent, though we don't often order them because we are usually full from dinner. It's a great value, and we look forward to dining there as often as we can. It's a pretty popular place, so it would be wise to call in advance, since some nights are busier than others. They serve a lot of groups around the holidays, so always check first if you're going around Christmas.
