Bangkok Restaurant, Geneva

Small family owned thai place. Very small inside, limited menu. Dishes are fair priced, a bit on the small side. Better thai places in the tri-cities, but it will work in a pinch. Try the larb nar, and the pad thai, skip the curry.

Did not meet our expectations to say the least. No atmosphere, the veggies & seafood were over cooked, & no bar!

This is still our most favorite Thai restaurant ever. 16 years + now. It's a place to truly unwind, kick back and enjoy the food as if in the country of Thailand itself. I could see this place on some little main street with lots of locals. The food is outstanding. A great combination of everyday Thai and the royal dishes served for celebrations. It doesn't matter what we order or what our guests order, hands down, Bangkok is the best. I am sorry to see the few who did not like it. I suppose if you need the wind me down drink and didn't know it is a BYOB place that could be difficult. Also, there is no comparison to any other asian food. Thai is unique in their use of ingredients so it is not the usual asian fare. As far as service, on busy nights Vena's husband and neice are the servers as are any other available hands including Vena. To us, it is so worth taking our time and enjoying the meal in a very casual foreign way rather than a high speed american way. Highly recommend the spring rolls (these are not fried), any of the salads, Panang is out of this world, and the #47, extra hot, is my hubbys fave. We also love the Pad Thai and the Coconut soup and the Pad Lar Nap (wide noodles). Keep up the great food and experiences at Bangkok!

This place is the best! Small restaurant, friendly staff, bring your own wine -it's perfect. Everywhere I travel I try Thai food and have not found any that come close to Bangkok in Geneva, IL. I drive almost 2 hours as often as I can to get their wonderful food.

I thought that a restaurant in downtown Geneva would have to be very good to survive. The service was slow to order, to get appetizers, to get food, to get water refills, to get check. Empty plates were not cleared for the longest time. The single waiter was friendly but could not handle the whole place by herself. I hope someone proves me wrong, and this was due to seasonal understaffing. I would be willing to put up with the wait if the food was good. The beef in the panang curry dish was underdone, while the chicken in another panang curry dish was bland - boiled chicken with sauce tossed on top. The bowl of white rice was not included, as in other asian restaurants. We only found out about this when we saw the charge on the bill. The two dollars for rice does not make the weather, but combination of all the little annoyances (slow service, unannounced charges, mediocre food) was disappointing.

I think this place is awesome. I have tried many other places and I am always disappointed. They have the best satay, spring rolls, pad thai that I can find around here anywhere. Service is good, and with a smile. Bring a bolttle of wine, take your time and relax. not expensive. very good. I am going again tonight.

Absolutely awesome food! The Massaman curry dish is excellent. Fun environment and BYOB. Great place for a casual dinner. This family run business makes for a friendly staff and experience.
