I just had the #7 turned into a salad and it was FABULOUS!! It was the Italian veggie over spinach...and I didn't even need to use one drop of dressing, the veggies were soooooo flavorful, it was great! Thank you so much! It's my new favorite salad, I'll get it again and again, and try others too. :)

This place is so great. I work about 15 minutes from it; I manage to get there about twice a month for lunch. The main draw, of course, is the sandwiches. And they are something. They are clearly designed by a proper gourmand - even on a simple sub (roast beef) they add some interesting twists and use high quality ingredients. My favorites? The "Jimmy the Greek" (chicken, feta cheese, kalamata olives) and the "Texas Chili-rub" (pork with an outstanding chile rub) The soups are also great. They usually have a few every day. I've never had a bad one but a standout is the chili which I've seen every time I've been there. I'm a bit of a chili snob, but damn, theirs is good. Very spicy, lots of flavor. Might even be better than my own homemade chili ;D A hint: their "half-a-sub and a cup of soup" special is misleading in a very good way. They basically take a full sub and cut off only a tiny nub. So it's more like 7/8 a sub and a cup of soup. Excellent value. An enormous amount of great food. This will be two good meals for an adult with a good appetite. The place itself is unassuming. Don't be misled. I think I saw them use a slogan something like "Just a shack, but you'll be back!" No doubt. Actual seating is limited, though in warmer months they have nice outdoor seating. In the winter I just get take-out (call ahead and order, saves the wait) I haven't tried any of the desserts (not my thing.) The sides seemed pretty standard - I think once I ordered the chili fries with two friends, the chili was great but the fries meh. Sides are unnecessary to begin with since a single sub is huge. The "half-sub and soup" special is even bigger. I've also been pretty meh on the salads - I've tried their oriental chicken salad and (I forget the name) one with bleu-cheese and bacon. Both times I was not overly impressed. The bleu-cheese bacon one comes with a bacon vinaigrette that is a bit overwhelming. Probably the only time I've ever eaten a bacon-themed dish and thought, "this is entirely too bacony." The oriental chicken salad is good but nothing special. Stick to the subs and soup. ALWAYS ask what soups are on for the day, there is always something interesting and delicious. Overall - highly recommended.

If you like Subway and Cousins, don't come here. If you want gleaming stainless steel and glass don't come here. It is a shack - with great food that is affordable. A.S.S. uses real bread rolls with top flight ingredients. The subs combine ingredients that compliment each other and really create a one-of-a-kind taste. There are always 3-4 homemade soups plus southwest chili to die for - spicy and no beans. The Al Capone, Italian Beef, Philly Steak, and Danish Blue are particularly unique and outstanding. There are salads, hamburgers, hot dogs, and kids meals as well. It is about 1/2 mile south of the Fox River bike trail on Route 31.

I love the Al Capone. It brings be back to my gangsta' times in the Chi. Definitely a Chicago sandwich with gangsta' written all over it. God Bless!

The first time I had a sub at this shop I was in love! I can't remember what it was that I ordered but the sub was absolutely intoxicating. It had chicken and roasted tomatoes. Absolutely fantastic!

When people care about the food they put out the results show plain and simple. This place is worth the trip even from miles away. Don't miss the Capone sandwich (I have mine on Garlic Bread) or the Black Bean Soup with all the fixins. You pay a little more here for a lunch, but you won't find better quality or a wider variety of creative sandwiches, salads and soups anywhere in Northern Illinois. Keep up the great work! Best sub ever. I will go way out of my way to get there. Sometimes I will have just eaten and find myself in a situation where I have to drive by it and I stop there to eat even with a full stomach

Great quality, delicious food!

I've been going to Algonquin Subs for years. When I was in corporate life, I had them cater some buisness lunches for me. It was always a hit! Since, I don't live in the area anymore, I have to travel over 25 miles to get there now. My husband and I both love their food. I'm a vegetarian and there are 3 choices for me and I always have a hard time deciding which one to get because they are all good. My husband loves the Al Capone. Can't end the meal without Judy's chocolate chip cookies, if there's any left when I get there! I think I'm going to contact the TV show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and see if they will do a story on them... Maria

I have frequented the Sub Shop off of 31 for the past five years and have never had but the best experiences there! The service is always excellent and food is great! Beats the heck out of Subway and Quiznos any day!
