My family returned from our vacation in Yellowstone. We stopped by Jakes Horses and went on a 4 hour ride. It was wonderful. The guide knew the area and explained riding procedure to my children. The boys have not spent much time around horses but the guide was extremely helpful. She made sure they were confortable and felt safe on the horses. Throughtout the trip the guide continued to check to see that everyone was safe and enjoying the ride. We have great pictures of the trip and will definantly make Jakes part of our Yellowstone adventures in the future. I would highly recommend Jake's to anyone that wants to enjoy the outdoors and wants to experience nature. We even saw a bear.

I would have to disagree with both reviews on Jake's Horses. I have spent many years traveling to Big Sky and have ridden with Jake's Horses every time. As a horse owner, I am extremely conscientious about horse health. Jake's obviously treats and cares for their animals. Every time I have visited Jake's the guides have had great horse sense, are extremely patient and positive. I must say however, as I have witnessed, they will not tolerate bad guest behavior. Anyone who has horses, knows that there are fast horses and slow horses and that a horse is only as good as its rider. The rides are beautiful and are not near the highway- rather they go into a reserve full of incredible mountain scenery, local flora and fauna. Always a pleasure! Thanks for TX!

This was the biggest disaster/joke that we have ever witnessed The horses were unkept...there were broken down machinery and manure everywhere. However our guide was very nice and 15 minutes into the ride we noticed we had a lame horse plus my partners horse was 50ft behind and trying to eat contantly. Our guide suggested we go back to the road and they would have two new horses waiting for us. She indicated this was not a problem at all. The two guides that meet us ( one being the owners daughter) started yelling at the guide immediately and would not ackowledge us. She was mad that they had to bring two horses out and that we could not continue the ride. When I interjected to tell her it wasn't necessary to yell at the guide in front of us as it was unprofessional behavior and it made me feel uncomfortable, she then turned on me with the same tone she was using on her guide. We chose at that point to end our ride. I got on a horse to go back and was told to get off that we could walk. We were forced to walk across a very busy highway to even get back to the stables. We saw the owner of Jakes out in his yard and approached him. He would not talk to us and even denied he was Jake the owner. Incredibly unprofessional behavior from all involved save for our guide and the woman taking the pictures. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone and we suggested that the resort we were staying at do the same. They were also appalled at their behavior. This place does not deserve a rating, but we had to give it one star.

I took a guided ride at Jake's with my family and was very dissapointed. The guides were cordial enough to us but rude to the other trail users on the National Forest trail. They seemed to be causing some serious damage to the muddy trails and did not appear to be at all concerned about it. The view of the nearby highway didn't make up for the shortcomings of the trip either. I usually love trail rides but was not impressed with Jakes.
