All are welcome at the HoDo Restaurant, a casual fine-dining establishment where exquisitely creative, delicious cuisine and unparalleled, experienced service intersect. We use locally grown and harvested ingredients, humanely and sustainably-raised whenever possible. The dishes are prepared with raw ingredients; if we can make it here, we'll make it here. From the house made breads and lavosh that start your meal, to the palate-cleansing sorbet you may enjoy before your entree, to the hand-crafted desserts that add the finishing touch to your experience, the Hotel Donaldson will always be a memorable addition to your culinary repertoire.
Hands down my favorite restaurant in Fargo... I live here and go to HoDo at least once a week for either lunch or supper. I really don t eat anywhere else in town as I think HoDo is the best!
I love the weekly lunch specials and the ever-changing dinner specials. I also appreciate how the menu seems to change with the seasons. There is always something that impresses me... their bison dishes are always wonderful!!!
It is really important to me to get high quality, clean, healthy, sustainable food and I feel like the HoDo can do that. They list the local farmer sources in their menu so you know where your food is coming from. Not that many restaurants do that because most restaurant are standard chains that serve the S.A.D. diet.
The service is also super friendly and fun!!!
We have given this restaurant more than it fair share of chances to impress. The chef appears to have some talent but has been told so often that he or she is wonderful by people who have little real knowledge of fine dining that it has gone to his or her head. The staff is arrogant and ill-informed about the menu items, sometimes to the point of misrepresenting (whether intentional or not) the food that is being served. Additionally the servers are argumentative when questioned about the menu or the pricing. The decor is pedestrian at best and the acoustics are simply awful. It is difficult to carry on a conversation even in a small group. This restaurant appears to be more appealing to those who have a lot of money to throw around (and want others to see them doing it) and who have very little taste.
Had one of the best sandwiches I've ever tasted. However, it was small (stylish? don't know: finished & still hungry). VERY expensive, high quality food & excellent service. If you want to get filled up at the HODO, it will thin out a fat wallet.
The HoDo is one of the best spots in town, whether for relaxing over a drink in the lounge/bar, sampling the latest creation in the restaurant, or suggesting to a friend looking for a special place to stay while in Fargo-Moorhead. My pick is usually the lounge, with a number of tasty appetizers to enjoy with one of the quality beers, wines, or mixers offered. With occasional live music and arguably the best ambiance of any bar in the area, this is a great place to spend a pleasant afternoon or evening.
Cool atmosphere and nice service. Nice food in general.
But don't order the fried calamari!!! It's really not tasty, and the pieces are too large (not your ordinary small rings), plus the sauces were not matching in their flavors.
Nice room, excellent service, unique menu and wonderful food. I had the wall eye cakes with a Pino Grigio; had a difficult time deciding from the distinctive entrees, but ordered the wonderful salmon in garlic and wine sauce with brussels sprouts and mustard spaetzle with a Barbera; and their desserts are tapas style - how perfect! I ended with the artisanal cheese, choice of three; the chevre was wonderful.
There is no reason not to give this place a try. It was wonderful for me.
