My boyfriend and I went looking forward to having a meal that we could enjoy without having to do the cooking for ourselves. What a mistake...we were sat in a booth that had no lighting making it difficult to read the menu and it took our waiter about 10 minutes to bring us our water and ask if we wanted anything other than water to drink...we ordered the bruschetta for an appetizer, although tasty, the sauce served for dipping tasted like store bought marinara (we were told the featured appetizer was something completely different than what others were being told was the featured appetizer was the bruschetta where we were told it was steak with frites) how can that be? Anyway, we ordered our entree's and were completely disappointed as they were bland...absolutely no flavor and adding salt and pepper didn't help.....very poor and we will not be going here for dinner on date night again...
I went with a group of friends on Wednesday night and we had a superb time. From the appetizers to the scrumptious desserts, from the happy hour prices of pre-dinner drinks, to the fabulous SD Symphony musicians who played beautiful music after beautiful music.... and topping it all an incredibly efficient and fun waiter! We had a variety of dishes from couscous to lamb to pork to chicken prosciutto.... plus dolmas, borscht, prime rib--- every single bite was delicious. What a fantastic evening. Sioux Fall is fortunate to have this restaurant.
Over the years we've been here a few times and always enjoyed it. Typically we go for a b-day or other special occasion as it’s not they type of place that you will be in and out of in an hour. You make a night of it that’s the only real reason we don’t go more often. Mom and dad don’t get a lot of chances for a “dinner only” night.
After seeing the last two reviews I was worried that something had changed at one of my favorite restaurants in Sioux Falls. But, I’m happy to report that we just got home and the Touch of Europe is just as good as the last time we went (almost a year ago).
I travel often and have eaten at many European restaurants. This one is up there with the best. Tonight there were four of us and each ordered something different. Everyone was very happy (and full). The service was good but not great and I’ll overlook just good service from time to time. The food quality filled any service voids. Needless to say, we will go back again and it won’t be a year this time.
You didn't miss anything. My husband and I went there ONCE. We were the only ones in the restaurant and even then had trouble getting service. The waitress was dour and the food was awful. I ordered a flank steak with a sauce over it. The steak was inedible and the sauce tasted like Cambell's tomato soup mixed with milk. My husband ordered something else (can't remember now what it was) and it was equally bad. I'm not sure how they stay in business.
Cozy place BUT
It took 45 minutes to get waited on.
Wait staff everywhere - every time we flagged one we were told it wasn't their table.
Finally got up and left, and will probably never return.
I wasn't excited to go there--I had never been there before and it was our first anniversary. But what a romantic and fun place to spend our first. I can't wait till our 2nd anniversary. Our food was great and the service was excellent and the prices I thought were very reasonable.
Food was good but not spectacular. Prices were moderate. Feel the basement and think of a fire-trap atmosphere. Staff was not
too pleasant but Eureopean so maybe they think service should so so.
No food after 10:00 PM even on weekends which is crazy after the Wash. Pav. events the place gets busy and you can't get a meal.
We like to dine later and listen to music but no meals after 10 (and don't be one minute late on this!) limits the place.
If you judge the kitchen on the cleanliness of the bathroom - DON'T go to the bathroom - nothing great there!
First thing was the noticable musty smell as you go down the stairs in to the restaurant, another thing was the fact that they were out of their house merlot wine when we ordered our meal, and it was early on a saturday evening. My stuffed salmon was good, but my four stalks of asparagus were not served hot. My girlfriend had the schnitzel which she could not stomach to finish from being too salty,(to me it tasted like a cheaper type of commercially made sausage that you would get at a grocery store). Our soup was good, service mediocre. They need to spend some money on their bathrooms.
