After waiting a while for someone to appear at the counter to take my order, the disinterested woman completely ignored me and asked the person behind me what they wanted to order. I am unaware of any feature of looks or dress that would have justified this behavior. The restaurant I went to immediately after had no problem taking my order or money. This kind of behavior is strange in an economy like ours. This place is busy so maybe they just don t care, but they lost one customer for good when down the road things might not be so rosy.
If you have never been to Shangri La #3 I would highly recommend it. The restaurant has been in downtown NSP for many years and seems to be one of the only ones that has lasted through the ups and downs of the town. The food is simple but tasty. Chow mein is the staple of this establishment, but there is a menu of made to order items. They only do take out, but they can prepare any order in less than 5 minutes. Don't expect the most intricate or fancy food here. They seem to stick with what works and is simple and affordable. The food comes out hot and fresh with the owner being the one to greet you 95% of the time. It means alot to me that He is such a dedicated worker!
*zero stars if that is possible.*
visited this place one day last month, it must have been around late afternoon or slightly later. the place was totally empty - so much so that I initially thought it was closed. there was just one guy to be seen. i ordered a veg chow mien [since i do not eat meat], and was shocked to find pieces of pork in the chow. when i asked him about it, he nonchalantly said that all chow have pork - and that i was supposed to know that. when i asked if he could replace the dish with some other item, he threw a huge tantrum, the likes of which i have not seen ever in any restaurant. i left the place pronto, as my self-respect did not allow me to continue, and paid for the check [he did show the magnanimity of not charging for the chow !]...
never am i returning to this place... after getting insulted like that.
disclaimer: i do not know whether this is a rare case, or whether the guy in question was having a bad day himself [which is admittedly possible].
This is the BEST of the BEST in the twin cities. They offer great prices with excellent service. Variety of choices and quick service! I would highly recomend Shangri La for anyone that loves Chinese food! My dad got me hooked on it and now I am willing to drive over 30 miles just have the food that my family CRAVES!
