The strong points about Fang are that the owners genuinely friendly and they are always very enthusiastic. Secondly, the portions for their meals are generous. The orange chicken happy meal is probably my favorite item. The chicken is sweet and spicy. But that's where it ends.
The cooks are not enthusiastic. I have witnessed this every time I go to watch them cook. I love cooking Chinese food and I've worked in two Chinese restaurants myself. I take pride in cooking my food and they should too. It's their life blood.
The cream cheese wontons are just like everywhere else. There is nothing to set them apart from all the other ones.
Chicken wings are bland on their own. They could use some seasoning of any kind and that would probably make them comparable to the rest of the Chinese restaurants. Cooking is about proper seasoning and that is a big weakness at Fang.
The egg rolls and fried rice are also bland. When you eat the egg rolls the cabbage is very coarsely shredded and that throws the texture off also. In addition the coarse cabbage make the egg roll taste funny. The egg roll filling tastes very bland probably due to a lack of seasoning. (Use some salt and white pepper for crying out loud.) Every Chinese restaurant I've worked in seasons the food somewhat. The fried rice could be a lot better. These two items should not be a weakness in any Chinese Restaurant, but unfortunately they are a weakness in many Chinese Restaurants lately.
Unseasoned food shows a lack of training and/or pride. I have only met a few Chinese cooks that take great pride in their work and their food is flavorful. Please, cooks of Fang, season your food!!! A little salt and pepper go a long way and so would some soy sauce.
This has been one of my favorite Chinese restaurants since the first opened but all new people working there in the last 6 months and the food isn't as good. Sesame chicken was my fav..nice tender white meat, but now made with dark meat and often dry and chewy. Still good..just not AS good.
