So...I see the last review was in 2008. When it was owned by the Partika family.
We moved to this area 12 years ago when the most awesome Phyliss Guyette waitressed. She was the grand-dame extraordinaire and the food/menu was great. After her tragic passing it passed to Steam and Suzie ...then Steam passed at an early age. Then...can t remember who took it on. Now...?
The owner of Countryside Catering has the reins. My DD and I tried the lunch menu: she got a burger (with handful of fries as menu stated). I got the BLT (on Texas toast with handful of fries) and we ordered a sample appetizer of fried stuff / crap (as it turned out/ All fried...unrecognizable shhh-tuff.). Whomever measured handful of fries has bigger hands than me. But that does NOT make up for lack of quality on other food!!!
DD said burger had NO flavor. My BLT....I can do better at home.. Texas Toast must have shrunk in process.
Gave this place second chance on Friday night w/DH and DS#2. Lots of people at bar; not many dining. Old dining area taken up by pool table where a long table was once laid out. But maybe that ts okay as food is nothing to write home about. Salad bar has shrunken, no chicken liver pate, cheese spreads (local faves). I ordered Broiled Haddock. Compared to SS Peter/Paul Lenten Fish Fry...Dugout portion (same price) was cheap, dinky portion, and not as flavorful. Should have gone to SS P and P Church!!!
DH unimpressed by his steak. DS#2 got Fish and Chips...only two small bits of fried cod with a sh..load of fries. I could have done same meal(s) cheaper buying from local grocery store (where I suspect they bought my Haddock as I once worked there!).
Also...wait staff not pros. Waitress we got tagged with was older, confused...and Dugout bar section lost business because she missed empty glasses when she delivered our dinners. Okay...to be fair...the tattooed guy who helped deliver our meals missed them too. Usually when you finish a drink and you place empty glass to side a pro would ask if you want another drink. Not in this case. Empty glasses (two) remained empty during entire dinner. Also...I asked for white wine...it was nasty. Reisling?...which I can t stand. Waitress also didn t know what beers were on tap when DH asked her.
I had hoped for better as I remember what this place USED TO BE!!!
As my DH said tonight... only burgers from here . And I question those.
Big menu...little satisfaction.
Go again? No!!!!
The friday fish fry is awesome and they give you more food than you could ever eat. They are known for their burgers which are excellent, but I have never had a bad meal. The steaks are great, I suggest the serloin but there are a lot more to choose from. The owners are always there either bartending or cooking. They are great people and the food and drinks compliment them. Also the drinks are very reasonable. I definately suggest giving it a try.
