Description

In the summer 1956, from the back of a storefront in the old hay market on 5th & Vliet, Betty Gillespie and Leonard Partee took the family recipe for BBQ and secret sauce and set up shop right next to Milwaukeeac2s undisputed champion of BBQ, acoeBlack Kingac. In the beginning, we survived on the overflow from Black King. Word of our excellent BBQ, Secret Sauce, and speedier service quickly spread and our founder, Betty Gillespie, was dubbed the Speed Queen. Soon we had all the business we could handle and Black King was moving away. From the hay market we moved to 12th & Vine and in 1975 we settled on the corner of 12th & Walnut where today weac2re proudly producing Milwaukeeac2s finest barbecued meats using the largest BBQ pit in the city and our trademarked secret sauces.

Pretty ordinary BBQ. Ted Cooks 19th hole in Minneapolis is better. Uncle Wendell's in Des Moines is much better. Tough neighborhood. A very agresive panhandle was working the parking lot the day I went.

Speed queen bar-b-q is the best in milwaukee their half and half of ribs and shoulder is to die for. The ribs are tender and the shoulder good.

I grew up in Milwaukee and haven't found any pork ribs or shoulder as good anyplace in the us. I am in texas now and the BBQ is all beef and the brisket is to die for. Carl May AKA mistaphoto

Q is still good after all these years. the smell along is enough to make me drool. love that smoked flavor and the hot bbque sauce.

Often not the first place to come to mind when thinking about carry-out Q. But maybe it should be. A Milwaukee institution. I recommend the shoulder or the ribs, both very. Always come with a generous portion of wonder bread.

Ok great food it is in the hood so it makes it a little hard to go there all the time but the ribs are like crack you have to have them. the only bad side is its in the hood.

Speed Queen BBQ - Try it and you're hooked

One of Milwaukee's well kept secrets. This place is in the hood, and looks NOTHING like a restaurant. Inside is pretty spartan too, but you can smell the BBQ from down the street! And if you like BBQ and down home cooking... you are in for a treat. They really only do one thing.... BBQ. If you have a big family, you can get a huge pan of awesome BBQ to take home. You don't walk away at Mc Donalds prices, but you definitely get what you pay for! Dinners for 2 will cost you 20 bucks. A family tray is 30 - 40, depending on what you get. Bring cash, because they do not take credit cards. There is an ATM in the lobby if you forget, though. AND, they sell their sauce by the quart, so when you get hooked, you can keep a supply on hand!

Whenever I want barbecue its the 1st place I think

Speed Queen Bar-B-Q isn't in the best of neighborhoods, (Ok lets face it) its in the ghetto. So you lock your doors and use the drive though. But they have the best shoulder dinner in town. I have tried many others but for the price as well as the food its still the only place I think of when I want to eat barbecue
