Located in Milwaukee's Latin Quarter amidst a bevy of other Mexican restaurants, Botanas stands out thanks to delicious, authentic cuisine and excellent margaritas. Owners Jaime and Martha Gonzalez welcome visitors with a smile and give meaning to the saying when you're here, you're family. Lunch specials are served from 11A to 2.30P from Monday to Friday, whereas the restaurant is open for lunch seven days a week from 11A to 3P. Serving a rare combination of Mexican, seafood and vegeterian cuisine, Botanas also provides Patio Dining. The owners are more than happy to host events and special occasions at this restaurant. Botanas is thus a comforting break for all.
Was not amused by their service at all, but the rainbow margarita was great. They had some rules that were quite confusing and we had to ask for a manager in order to be seated. We also was told we could not sit at a certain table because it was the waiting area , even though when we walked pass again, the same people were sitting there. Although only two of us, the table of four was tiny and not much elbow room. We also ordered spicy wings, and they brought me a six piece fried chicken wing dings with hot sauce on the side....that s not was I asked for! I think there was some communication barrier as well.
I am so disgusted by this place and will never eat here again! We used to come here at least once a week until a bone was found in our food and after bringing the issue to the manager they STILL charged us for the food because half of it was eaten (which was ironic bc the bone was found halfway through). After fighting with the owner about getting our money back he then returned a mere five dollars back. Way to keep your customers, especially the loyal ones. They are so quick to get you in and out the door and consistently screw up orders. Eat here at your own risk bc if a mistake is made they will blame you and make you still pay full price! I wouldnt even give them ONE star now!!!!!!!!!!!
Please don t waste your time and money. Horrible food and managers. We had the shrimp and fish tacos. They don t devein their shrimp. The shrimp was chopped into little pieces. The fish were 2 little frozen patties with no flavor. My son had the quesadilla which looked like it was made from Kraft slice cheese. We asked to speak to the manager which went off on me. Really!! She walked away saying Whatever. No apology.. This was my first and last time visiting. They also messed up the customers order next to us..
Have to agree with other comments. This restaurant used to be good, because my husband and I stopped going to La Fuentes down the street, because of the low quality they amassed. Now it has become just ordinary and not very good.
Bad service from the minute we walked in the door, to the minute we stepped out. The Mexicans practically beg for a tip, reminding you to 'give 15%.' I can see why they need to remind people, given their bad service they are probably used to making less than average in tips. If they only could grasp the concept of good service translating to a tip that exceeds 15%. The manager is terribly unpleasant, I can see why the wait staff don't smile or have any manners. I had spicy pork tacos which were terribly dry and bland. I applied the table salsa to add some flavor. My husband had enchaladas which were sub-par. Will NEVER go back or recommend this place to anyone. There are many Mexican restaurants on this corner, this has the least quality overall.
I have visited Botanas million times and not because I like it but becuase my friends love it. I think the food is okay and the portions are huge. For me Taco Bell has better tasting mexican food than Botanas
