Karl Ratzsch's Restaurant, Milwaukee

Not impressed and very disappointed in this restaurant. First, I ordered the fish fry which according to their web site is 12.95, but on the check , they charged 16.50 for the fish fry. Second, my German mother was not impressed with her rolladen dish at all. Third, they charge $5 for valet parking. Maders, doesnt charge anything for their valet parking. Plus, the fish fry was very average and even the bread basket sucked. I dont understand why some people rave about this place. Its just a money pit. Wouldnt mind paying high prices if the food is exceptional, but it was very very average. I will never go to Karl Ratzsch s again.

I love Mader's and Ratzsch's both. That said I would say Ratzsch's is much more a dresser formal place. The way the food is presented is much more 'stuffy' at Ratzsch's, but not in a bad way. I have seen people with jeans and sweatshirts at Maders, but Ratzsch's is much dresser. Each place you get quality food, the best German food outside of Germany but Ratzsch's is much more let's all get dressed up and go out for a nice meal.

Excellent old world food. For Decades the 2 owners have not disappointed one customer! THe food is Excellent. My late Mother, 100% German loved eating here!

This is a very cozy restaurant. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the decor. The Friday night fish fry was excellent - the fish practically melted in your mouth. The live piano music (on Fridays and Saturdays) really added to the ambience. My only gripe was that the service wasn't that great, but I do believe that this was our waitress and not something true for the entire restaurant. I noticed that the people around us had great service from their waitresses. Speaking of which, the Bavaria dresses they wear add to the overall atmosphere of the place. This is a really nice place to get a meal in Milwaukee.

I have enjoyed Karl Raszsch's since 1980... where we got engaged! Great service sumptuous food, great atmosphere, and all that great German bier! Prosit!
