Isn t worth the price you pay. The waitress just took our order, never asked if we needed anything else, never refilled our water, never asked how the food was. The walleye was terrible. We will NEVER go back to this place.
Great place! Buy 1 - Get 1 dinners great option. The seafood was excellent. Beautiful drive near Holy Hill. Had reservations so we were seated within minutes on a Friday night. Would like to try the live music on the outdoor patio on Saturday nights with friends next time.
wonderful restaurant, fabulous food, lively servers, and can't beat that two for one deal!!! we bring out of state guests here for the wow factor--no, you can't eat history, but the history of this beautiful place is jawdropping and adds so much to the experience.
last saturday night, we had a group of four for 6pm---all the parking lots were full, the bars were jumping, everyone was smiling, anticipating a fantastic meal. our dinners couldn't have been better: sizzling roast duck, crisp and perfect; prime rib, succulent and fork tender; rib eye and filet steaks--rich and tender, seasoned and grilled better than anywhere--add to that perfect fresh salads, fresh hot bread with honey butter, piping hot soups, and our choice of 7 home-made desserts---our guests will be clamoring to come back to wisconsin and the fox and hounds ESPECIALLY.
in these tough economic times, we are so grateful the owners have been determined to provide affordable, memorable evenings like these.
The service at this restaurant could possibly be the worst I have ever experienced. In fact, we had an 8:30 reservation and come 9:15 we were still not seated. We left and ate somewhere else. I would NOT recommend this restaurant. The drinks were overpriced and the bathrooms smelled like sewage.
The food and service at the new Fox and Hounds is nowhere near the quality when the Ratzsch family owned it. I have been going to this establishment for 35 years, and since the owners of the Mineshaft bought it, quality has been compromised. Still a great place for a beer in the winter when the fireplaces are going strong, but it no longer lives up to my memories of years gone by.
The NEW Fox and Hounds is an average value on average food and service.
The OLD Fox and Hounds would have received five stars.
Visited the restaurant on Feb 6th to celebrate a few birthdays in the family. We had eight people in the party and I think either the 7th or 8th person pushes you into the automatic tip category. This basically means that the waitress can neglect you to her heart's content and she'll still get her 18%. In retrospect, I should have stepped away from the table and located the manager for a little discussion.
Anyway, the service was absolutely terrible. A reservation was made (well in advance) for 7pm so we were seated quickly but it all went downhill from there. Every task seemed to take 15-mins and many requests for things like water refills were completely forgotten. From the time we were seated until the food was on the table took 80-mins and I'd guess that we ordered about 15-mins after being seated. After the table was cleared, it took another 15~20-mins to get the bill.
Looking at my credit card receipt, the time is stamped at 9:12pm. We all arrived promptly at 7pm and were seated by 7:10pm. This tells you that we were at the table for 2 hours. I am all about an hour long meal with good conversation and short intervals of time between courses. However, 2-hours at the table is unconscionable!
I'd guess that since they've changed their buy-one-get-one promotion to cover Saturday that they just can't manage the volume of patrons. Trouble is that the price of the meals are all 2x what they should be so your bill in the end will be exactly what it would be anywhere else.
Where they get you is if you have an odd number of people or children. The odd man out will essentially pay double for his meal because you don't have another person to offset the cost. Children in the party? Their meals will be free (with each parent's meal) but the parent's meal will be exorbitantly priced ($20~$25).
If the food wasn't good, I would have rated it a one-star.
Very nice - we will go back. Friendly service. Food was fresh and well prepared. Bacon thick and crisp. Thick pork sausage not that skinny dried out stuff. Fresh, sweet pineapple. Ham sweet and tasty. Pastries to die for. Would have like more fresh green, steamed vegies. Or sliced prime rib. Lovely historic location. Coffee could have been stronger for me. We drove from Cudahy and will do it a few times a year. Or stop in on the way home from a vacation weekend.
