I was in the barley pop on Saturday 4/24/10 and it was incredible. There was a party of about 60 having a surprise 80th birthday party in the main rest., in the pub there was a Germantown HS reunion, and a 20 person family reunion. the entire establishment never missed a beat. we sat at a table in the pub and were treated well in spite of the bigger demands in the establishment. The food, a Tijuana cheese steak and the Barley Pop red-eye were incredible new creations added to the 3rd menu the new owner has created. Jennifer, I think her name was, visited us twice to make sure all was well and we were made to feel right at home.
We will return and think you would find a great experience as well. thanks for remaking the Barley Pop, Germantown needs it.
Used to be a place of choice but over the last couple of years the food has worsened. Service is terrible. Last few times it felt like we were not welcomed by the server as she would have perferred to remain in her personal conversation than serve a customer. Also, the group that was in the bar were obviously regulars as they were served much more regularly and with better attention.
My wife and I plus many friends use to come to the Barley Pop every Thursday night for the past 6 years until some of us moved away. Well everyone is now back in town and we decided to return to old habits.
1) Cheap steak night ($4.95 Thursday) is not so cheap anymore. ($6.95) for a ground sirloin instead of the real sirloin like before. But on the menu it still says sirloin.
2) We had a gift certificate that we received from a poker tournament in January for $10 off that the new owner (in a red sox shirt) would not accept. She said and I quote “the previous owner already made money off of this so I can’t accept it, but I will meet you half way and give you $5 off.” ……Not our problem that’s the cost of business and when you purchase a business and the name you must honor all pre-engagements per LAW.
3) I always get a double Crown Royal on the rock and at dinner I was clearly charged on my receipt $6.25. After dinner I went to the bar for another and was charged $8.25. So I went to this owner lady and asked why the price difference? I was told “I was lucky the first time I got a deal so I can’t do anything about it.” I have photos of my receipt and you can clearly see my dinner receipt was correct.
4) When we were leaving we said “bye” to the bar and this lady looked at us with a dirty look and did not say anything back. PLAIN RUDE.
We (the 8 of us) will not be returning to this establishment EVER and will be going somewhere that appreciates is customers. RUDENESS is a great way to ruin a business especially in these times and you can see it by the ghost town the Barley Pop has become. (At least on Thursday nights anyway). It's sad to lose long term customers to rudeness.
The perfect place for reasonably priced great food and fun. The weekly specials are amazing. All you can eat Hamburgers on Mondays!!! The best $4 steak dinner I've ever found on Thursdays. And Karaoke Thursday and Friday nights!!!!!!
