The absolute best Filet Mignon I have ever had is served here! This has been proven time and time again over the past 8 or so years I have taken my wife here on our Birthdays and Anniversarys. Thank you Chef!

Duck city desaster
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/11/10
What a disappointment. After a symphony event, we decided to give Duck City another chance. We have been there other times in the past and were always disappointed. We hoped that this time might be different. From the pretentious staff that thinks they're highly knowledgeable, to the dirty wine glasses, to the plates that need to be replaced, to the kitchen staff that parades through the dining room in dirty white jackets, to the almost inedible food, this night went from bad to worse. My food critic French husband just wanted to try the duck breast.....but no luck, Guess what....no duck at duck city. How can one run out of the signature dish?? A quickly substituted beef dish was well cooked but was swimming in fat along with vegetables equally saturated in this fat. The portion size was ridiculous...his meal. Looked like an amount for a family of five. My food, promised to be great by the wait staff was the Thai chicken with peanut sauce. What arrived looked like funnel cakes...no one warned me that this chicken would be a breaded monstrosity! As for the puddle of ooze around the plate that was supposed to be "peanut saucea, it was a thick gravy with a hint of peanut butter dragged through it. What was supposed to be a beautifully plated dish was a disaster. I sent it back.....I won't even comment on the fried rice. Our friend's steak "medium well" was like a little black overcooked brick on her plate. Her artichoke stuffed with blue cheese was an afterthought that arrived late and was hastily thrown on her plate. What's sad to think is that some Quad Cities residents find this to be "fine dining".....I tell them to expand their world. THIS IS NOT FINE DINING!

Even though Duck City Bistro is in Iowa and I live in New Jersey, it is my favorite restaurant in the country. Every time I travel to the area, I head right to Duck City. If I am there for a week - Duck City Bistro every evening for dinner. I love Chef Charles - he personally introduces you to all the entrees on display in the glass case when you walk in the door. The meal starts out with a loaf of hot bread accompanied by roasted garlic cloves. Squeeze the garlic clove over your bread and spread it on with a knife. The sweet and nutty flavor will make you wonder why you would ever think of using mere butter on your bread again. I have eaten my way through this menu several times but I am addicted to a few items. For appetizers, I love the Portabello Mushrooms - rich and meaty with a hint of charcoal, it is hard to believe that you are not eating steak. I love their Escargot with the garlic laden butter sauce - perfectly cooked - they are melt in your mouth tender. My favorite entree is the Cajun Red Rock Fish. I love spice so I order it extra spicy. Simply scrumptious. It is served over dirty rice and topped with blackened shrimp E’toufee. I spent a lot of time in New Orleans and this would rival any restaurant down there for taste. There have a unique wine list and the waitstaff makes great recommendations for pairing with the food. Portions are very large so save some room for dessert. My favorite is the strawberry shortcake which can comfortably feed three. The Death by Chocolate requires at least 5 people at the table to get through the entire thing. Both are simply a great end to a wonderful meal. The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed. It can be quiet or lively depending on the night. The waitstaff is attentive and friendly, the host is charming and larger than life, the prices are reasonable, the portions are ample, and the food is second to none. Highly recommended to all!
