We recently stayed at the Quality Inn in Eldridge and the desk cleark referred us to this place as one of her favorite restraunts. We were very impressed! We loved the service and the amount of food that we were given for the price. Not to mention since we are from the south, we loved how all the food tasted like it was made from our own kitchen. We wished we had a place like this in Nashville.

This restaurant is a hit or miss when it comes to good food! Some times it is wonderful; other times it is NOT! Last night ordered fried chicken, one of my favs at this restaurant. I ordered 2 pc. white. Both pieces were over-cooked and as dry as can be. When the waitress came to ask how our meal was, I explained this. She said, "I'll see what the food manager has to say about that". Later she came back with ONE piece on a small plate, not the 2 pieces, just one piece. It was a little better, but still over cooked. I also asked for a baked sweet potato. That potato had to have been the smallest thing ever! Three bites and I was done. Not a good night at the shed. Unfortunately, this has happened to us before. We will think twice before going there again!

I live in Illinois, and everytime I am driving through Iowa, it is a favorite place to stop to have a bite to eat, but my favorite is the Loaded Baked Potato Soup, and am usually bringing home 4 containers for family at home. Wish we had one in Illinois so I didn't have to drive 3 hours to get there. I love the items for sale and usually find something to bring back.

Like any place that Mike Whalen has his hands in this place is WONDERFUL! Casual, down on the farm decor, menu, and service. The food NEVER disappoints. If you leave without the baked potato soup with bacon, cheese, and green onions you are doing yourself a great disservice. All meals come family style with cottage cheese, cole slaw, breads & butter, all that good stuff. Steaks are wonderful, the pan fried chicken is to die for, and if you can get desert down after one of their meals go for it!

cute restaurant
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/2/08
My girlfriend who's retiring from the Navy is moving back home in Oct 08 and I drove with her in March 08 to close on her new home. I hope to come back again, Davenport is interesting. This restaurant itself is worth the visit. By this I mean the decor and the overall "feel" of the place. It's really cool and it certainly feels like you're walking into a barn full of old stuff. The waiters/waitresses wear these goofy overalls and plaid shirts. Drinks are served in mason jars. I saw some kid meals served in little John Deere tractor things. This place reminds me of Mike's Farm in NC.

The restaurant itself is worth the visit... meaning the decor and the overall "feel" of the place. It's really cool and it certainly feels like you're walking into a barn full of old stuff. The waiters/waitresses wear these goofy overalls and plaid shirts. Drinks are served in mason jars. I saw some kid meals served in little John Deere tractor things. It's lots of fun! I ordered the Pork Philly Cheese Steak sandwich as did my significant other one Sunday afternoon. It was very good! The food is very farm-like... lots of country favorites like fried chicken and fried everything else. Lots of fries (sweet potato and regular). The desserts looked fabulous, though we didn't succumb as we were stuffed from our meal. We both ordered soups with our sandwiches. The french onion is great and he ordered the chili. Good stuff. I was kind of irked that they don't serve their lunch menu on Sundays. There are lots of goodies on it for cheaper (like the pulled pork sandwich). I did kind of find items a little expensive on the dinner menu. A lot of the entrees were over $12 with our sandwiches being just over $9. For lunch, their sandwiches are about $7 and the entrees are cheaper as well. Anyway, it's a great visit. If you have family or friends in from out of town, definitely take them here! It's very "Iowan" and the food is pretty good if you're not on a diet! P.S. - I didn't have any problems with the service. Everyone was friendly and efficient.

The Shed a Constant in QC Life
By Slippyfist, 6/5/07
I have been going to the shed since I was a youngster with my family. I always enjoyed going there after a ball game with my Mom, Dad, and 3 Brothers. I now take my family there, and they all love it as much as I used to. Have spent some time away from the QC, and the closest I have ever come to the ambiance and family style dining was in a Po' Folks restaurant, which they don't have around here. The Shed is a rare treat that that you should endulge in. The wait on a weekend at dinner time may be a while, but spend time in the gift shop while you wait. If you have young children that like chicken strips, the shed has the best. The breading is flavored with ranch (every kid's favorite dipping sauce), and come to the table in a small John Deere (style) wagon, along with a healthy portion of steak sized fries.

Machine at work?
By Yolanda N, 11/7/06
The decor reminds me of The Cracker Barrel. The waitstaff were very friendly. I was there for breakfast I found the food adequate. Based on the one meal I would say that the decor was more of a draw for ME
