Overlooking the beautiful Iowa River, this full service restaurant offers a menu of delicious steaks, prime rib, and fresh seafood. They are open nightly for dinner plus serve a wonderful brunch on Sundays.
The service was horrible, the food was good. We arrived at 6pm with reservations. We were served our appetizer by 6:30pm, but didn t get our main course until after 8:15pm. We had a family of only eight and again, reservations. Then to add insult to injury, we were automatically forced to pay an 18% tip. We will never, ever return to this restaurant and I would never recommend it to anyone.
Heard great things about this restaurant, but they made a bad first impression. Service was very slow. Placed order and wasn't told until 30 minutes later that the entree ordered wasn't available. Had to wait an additional 30 minutes for food which was so-so.
I am SO glad to have re-found Iowa River Power. After being away from there and even from the Iowa City area for years, I returned and never thought about IRP again. But it's still there, the view is great, as is the bread and wine; the menu items are tasty and plentiful and the staff is good. Forgetting to come back to the table when the customers needed just another minute to look at the menu was a downer but overall the evening was extremely positive.
I was pleasantly surprised to find such a great restaurant in the heart of the Midwest. I travel the country and had this restaurant recommended by a business partner. I was extremely happy with my steak oscar and my guest was couldn't say enough about his prime rib. I got a Caesar salad and soup du jor and my friend got the Onion soup. The presentation was above average and the service was great. I broke down and had one of their signature deserts a raspberry cheesecake. I had to get a to go box I was so full. I was very happy with the evening.
Ill start with the good. It wasnt packed in fact there was only a few tables filled but it was a sunday night. My girlfriend loved her chicken and the bread, I thought it tasted like a dog bisquit. My ribeye was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. the handcrafted ranch was delicious on the house salad. The view of the river is amazing and romantic but still a laid back restaurant. Now for the bad, even though my steak was made perfect i ordered a NY strip. My beer that i ordered came after i was done eating my salad. i would have not cared so much if they were busy but we were his only table he came by us many times always empty handed. When i got my beer the Best Used By date said 12-21-08 we were there on 1-25-09. Most beer it doesnt matter a whole lot but this was a wheat beer it can go bad and make you sick and if that popular of a beer was bad i wonder what some of the others less drank are like. Over all the food was good the scenery was good but not for the price we paid. i would go here again if i wasnt paying or they lowered there prices.
I love this restaurant it is my all time favorite. Great food, great service, and great view of the river. You will not go home hungry !!!! I live over an hour away, so I don't get to eat there as offer as I would like -- but it is worth the drive!!!!!!!
