Pickle Barrell Subs, Dubuque

I visited the Asbury Pickle Barrell this Sunday. Typically I am a Pickle Barrell fan. The service was slow. The employee had to go back to the frige for every item to put on the sub. The employee left the frige open. They didn't have several items. One of our items had some cheese with a very unpleasant taste. When we left, the employee informed us we had an error on our bill and attempted to give us some change. After the littany of things wrong, we decided to contact to the owner to inform them of our recent concerns. We like the business and expect better.

These places are dirty and disgusting. I wont go there again. The one on Central has a really gross guy working the counter and baking the bread, he delivers sometimes too. They are always out of something...c'mon pickles, onions and tomatoes,why would you even chance running out of these?? They are a big part of the sandwich. Last time I was there my mom got spoiled egg salad and left because the place was soooo dirty !!

I eat lunch at the main street pickle barrell several times per week. I have always recieved fast friendly service the employees are very nice and seem to enjoy their work the food is always fresh and tasty. they usually are very busy during the lunch hour but the service is quick and the subs are the best in town I have been eating lunch there for years and will for many more.The whole experiance is dynamite!!!!!

Pickle-Barrell has great tasting subs! When I moved to Dubuque, I discovered that they were fresher and more wholesome tasting than any other sub I had ever bought (across the country). I have never experienced the bad service described in some of these other reviews - we normally go to the Asbury or Delhi locations. The staff is always patient with customers, even if they have large orders. Those sites are also clean and simple. The pricing appears high, but it's no worse than any other restaurant nowadays... go on a Saturday or Sunday for incredible specials!

Once the best subs in town...now some of the worst. The shops are disgusting and they'd have to pay me to eat there.

The Pickle Barrel in Key West area has bad employees... the one let a customer (obviously a friend) come behind the counter and he started eating the roast beef and a few other meats without washing his hands... right in front of us all!!! Not only is this unsanitary ,but it was also rude for the customers... I would recommend QUIZONO'S SUBS in ASBURY OR PANERA's if you want good QUALITY FOOD! UNBIAS OPION!

I won't generalize and say that each location is this way because there is definitely a trend. Avoid the Central Avenue location if you can, as I almost ALWAYS get terrible & slow service from a severely rude employee. The last time I was there, the manager standing nearby just chuckled and rolled her eyes with the employee when I asked a question. Usually the Asbury and the Delhi locations have MUCH better service -- quicker and friendlier! The bread is great - I'd recommend the wheat -- even for those who aren't wheat fans normally. It's very light and not gritty. For the chocolate lover - I'd definitely recommend their brownie/chocolate cake dessert. It's a little bit of heaven wrapped in cellophane!

As a Dubuque native now living in the god-forsaken south, I whole-heartedly miss them! I eat there every time i'm home. Yummy.
