It you want to get a drink and leave, JPs works. I'll never say they have bad coffee. What i hate about JPs is that they hate me.
I'm a very nice girl. I never rude to strangers, I say things with a please and a thank you. Many of my friends are the say way, we're plan old good kids. At JP's, we feel like they assume we aren't.
My boyfriend had a mohawk, but he's also an eagle scout, i met him at our church, and he's on the honor roll. However, the people behind the counter seem to assume he's a bad person, and treat him as such. Another friend of mine love's JP's brownies, but has stopped going there because he heard the employees mocking him after he had ordered. He is gay, and they were blatently mocking him for it, while working, when he was only about 15 feet away and he could hear them!
We went to the manager to complain, who then told us that if we didn't like her employees, we could leave. He hasn't bought a brownie there since.
I feel that unless a person is wearing a Hope College tee, or carrying a bible, or over 30, you aren't welcome at JPs. If i ever lose my lip ring and dye my hair brown again, maybe they'll accept my buisness. Until then, I'm chilling at Lemonjello's where they don't judge.
For drinks and pastries this place is wonderful, their wi-fi connection is strong and consistant as well. If you want to pull out a book though or surf the net with some level of quiet this is NOT the place for you. It's close to the college campus and logically they crank up the music for the younger crowds that come in.
If you don't mind the rucus, it's a wonderful place.
If you needed a little pick me up this is the spot to go, J P's is a clean and friendly environment with all of their drinks reasonably priced. I can't say that there is always a place to sit but during the warm months you can just sit on the bench in lovely downtown Holland.
