We live about 1/4 mile from Tosi's and have been going there for five generations, starting when Emil Tosi ran a resort there. The current owners have maintained the tradition and you can not find a better place to eat without driving to Chicago. we know - we have tried all of them over the years and we keep coming back to Tosi's. The wait can be a bit long in the summer, especially when there is an event in St Joseph, but otherwise no complaints!
Our very first time here at Tosi's and the feel from the front door to the time we left my wife and I are still in an awe. The evening was busy for them, but we were able to relax with a glass of wine and listen to the entertainment. Menu is well put together as is the wine list, the server was prombt and told us of the evenings specials. When the meals arrived they were hot and the portions were plenty. Dessert was a must because the tray presented had the smell that forced us to indulge. My wife and I made our way back to the bar for an after dinner drink and listen to the great music. Great atmosphere, Great food, Great service!!!
Hope to go relax and enjoy real soon.
In response to the response of 8/21/09 – I too was at Tosi’s on the night in question and the service was HORENDOUS. As a matter of fact the last three times I’ve been to the restaurant the service has not been very good – I will not be going back. The person that wrote the original review seemed to be honest and candid – a bit too much information but never the less straightforward. Your response seemed to be more of an attack on him than giving your own review. By the way you misspelled accommodated.
My wife and 2 children went to Tosi's on Friday August 14th, 2009 for one last (nice) summer dinner out before the kids headed back to college. In the past we have always loved the food and service we've received at Tosi's. Unfortunately it would appear that things have changed since our last visit. Shortly after our arrival (while waiting for our table) I went into the bar to get drinks. After waiting no less than 10 minutes while the sole bartender served drinks to a rather large crowd she finally acknowledged the fact that I had been waiting by holding up her index finger and commenting that she'd be right with me. After serving several other customers she then walked right past me to wait on two other gentleman that had just walked up to the bar. I then calmly stated that I had been waiting and was there way before the other two men had walked up. But unfortunately, she didn't seem to care and went on with their order. Later it became obvious that they were regulars. I gave up and went back to wait with my family for our table. We were seated in the area adjacent to the bar. They hired a guy to entertain that night (sing and play music) he was not very good but was really trying so no big deal. The problem was that everyone in the bar area wanted to talk and to be able to hear each other you practically had to yell. Needless to say dinner conversation was not conducive. The restaurant was very busy (good news for the owners) but bad news for the customers because they were woefully understaffed. Our waiter was exasperated and the service (in terms of timely refills on drinks and the delivery of appetizers, etc.) was noticeably slow. In spite of the lack of attention I still left the waiter a great tip (over 20%) because I felt that the poor staffing was not his responsibility - he was doing the best he could but simply had too many customers to serve. By the end of the night I too would have acted exasperated. When our food finally arrived it was slightly above average in terms of taste and flavor. I tried really hard to be positive about it with the family because being negative would have only made the evening worse. In the end it was a very disappointing night. Not at all what we have been accustomed to at Tosi's. I feel bad about this review because we really love the restaurant, unfortunately this particular night was just not very good.
I've been going here for years. It is truely the best.On a par with the best in Chicago. You won't be disappointed. All is made to order. The only White tabecloth eatery in the area.Decor is like an old Italian villa...Wonderfull
Hands down, the first place I think of when we get an evening away from the kids. The Toranodo's are to die for and the Malfatti is my absolute favorite. The service is fantastic and even though we don't go but 2-3 times a year, the 'family' always recognize us. Fabulous atmosphere, great food, a wonderful time. And - if you have some cocktails and make frequent trips to the ladies room you will become fluent in Italian! lol.
