I had read a handful of mostly positive reviews for this place for having great food at good prices and decided to try it. Yeah....no. Overall, I didn t think the food was anything special, and the prices were similar to other places that have the same kind of offerings. I ordered a few coney dogs, onion rings, and a root beer. The dogs themselves were mediocre at best, and the famous coney sauce was no better. I would describe it as a somewhat sweet, bland, thick tomato sauce with a few tiny pieces of what I assumed was ground meat mixed in. It wasn t exactly unpleasant tasting, but I can not for the life of me understand why some people think it s so awesome. The onion rings were very average tasting and not what I would consider a bargain at almost $3 for about the size of medium fries at Micky D s. I did really enjoy the root beer, though it was barely cool (I was not given any ice in my cup) and at $2 for a large, it s comparable to most fast food joints. I called in a take-out order, but when I pulled in their parking lot, I was immediately approached by an employee before I could even get out of my car. I did not like this because it put me in a position where I felt I needed to tip. I know it is my choice and I could have decided not to do so, but when someone brings food to you, I feel they should be tipped. However, I went there intending to go inside and did not expect to tip, so it added another $2 onto the cost of this forgetable meal (other than the root beer). Probably the worst part of the experience was how my digestive system reacted to the food. To put it nicely, my intestines were NOT happy. It had been months since I had the reaction and pain I experienced after consuming this food, even though I eat fast food on a fairly regular basis. So, I will not be back. To those who enjoy the food here, more power to you. But, I would never recommend this place to anyone other than to get some good root beer.
I started going to Old Town Drive-In back in 1999 on the Friday cruise nights. There would always be several classic cars in the parking lot and the waitresses brought the food to your car window. It is one of my fondest memories from my teenage years. The food is superb and the root beer is second to none. I can honestly say that I have not had a coney dog that has come close in the last ten years. Thanks for the great times Old Town.
I live clear across town and love going to old town drive inn. The hot dog sauce is the absolute best and sometimes we will buy sauce to take home for later. It totally rocks. My kids thinks its so cool to sit at the lttle bar and have iced mug of rootbeer. I would highly recommend this place to all.Thank you for all the great food and super service!
The place is the best hotdog drive-in known to me. I love it. Love their famous hot dog chili suace. I could eat there all day. It brings back the time's when families use to spend time together and share in the joy and anitcipation of getting something that felt fantastic. Thankyou Old Town. You're the best.
