Bring two great things together and you get an even greater combination. Welcome to OSLO...a pioneer in the field of making great combination, bringing the best in food and music to the heart of detroit. Sushi and electronic music have always seemed to go hand, and OSLO broke onto the scene in april 2004 rolling out the best sushi and electronic music detroit had to offer. after a brief hiatus, OSLO re-opend in late 2007 under the watch full eye of new Owner/Chef Lumpai Rossbach with an expanded menu including authentic Thai cuisine and the same great sushi, now beautiful prepared by chef John Riney.
I don't know how this place gets good ratings. I WAS GIVEN A PAPER TOWEL TO USE BECAUSE THERE WERE NO CLEAN DISHES! The sushi was sub par and not even wrapped well. My salad came 10 minutes after the sushi which took forever and the beverages never came after several requests until the meal was over.
If not for these things I could have overlooked the chipped plates and crummy presentation. The service was bad, but the quality of the sushi sealed the deal on me not returning. SOoooo over-rated!
The only innovative thing about Oslo is the decor, which looks like a big piece of danish modern.
It may be an okay cocktail spot but for a lesson in good sushi, head to Crave in Dearborn, Cherry Tree in Novi or Take Sushi in Rochester.
I hope this place gets fixed. I can only figure that the positive reviews came from folks that haven't had much sushi, and the owners have no previous restaurant experience.
I have been addicted to sushi for quite sometime. Additionally, I have been trying to make it to Oslo. When I finally arrived I was impressed with the quaint surroundings and the goooood SUSHI!! I will definately return.
I dined at Oslo last night for the first time and was not disappointed. My friend and I shared a combination platter and everything was delicious. I especially enjoyed the seared marlin and the eel & avocado rolls that we ordered in addition to the platter.
I will definitely be back.
This is a wonderful establishment. I love the atomphere, either on the ground floor in the restraurant or downstairs in the dance club. I love the salmon and the california rolls were delicious!! A must for a hot night out in Detroit.
The wait staff is incredibly rude and the food portions are small. The lighting is pretty cool and the music is smooth but that's all Oslo has going for it. There are other sushi resturaunts in the city where you can eat and be treat a whole lot better.
