Fishbone's Rhythm Kitchen Cafe

Description

Greektown's revival was symbolized by the opening of this lively Cajun food-and-jazz emporium. On the same premises as the Atheneum Suites Hotel, Fishbone's is wildly popular, and celebrities such as Aretha Franklin often drop by. The authentic food includes Cajun catfish, snapper, crawfish, alligator and caviar shipped directly from Louisiana. Live New Orleans-style jazz is a nightly feature and the popular Sunday brunch also includes live jazz. Loud, happy and soulful, Fishbone's features dirty rice, jambalaya, whiskey chicken and ribs, and a brassy, sassy atmosphere. Spin-off Fishbone's have opened in Southfield (at 29244 Northwestern Highway) and St. Clair Shores (23722 Jefferson).

I only gave it 5 stars because that's the highest rating i can give. I actually give this a 50/5 stars. Lobster Po boy LOADED with lobster for 12$... Great Food Great Service.. I can't POSSIBLY say anything bad about this restaurant. NO DOUBT I will be returning here again and again.

The fishbones in St. Clair Shores no longer has the lobster Bisque on Saturday. They also advertise Clam Chowder on Friday and Saturday, but when ordered on Saturday you are told that it is a menu mistake. They always have ONLY brocolli as their vegetable.

A friend and I stopped in for some sushi and a beer. Lively atmosphere. Great help from our waitress in selecting our sushi. The sushi...well, we felt as though we had died and gone to heaven, it was that good!

Fishbone's should NEVER say they are New Orleans Like. They don't even know what a Porboy is suppose to look like. A Roast Beef Porboy is sliced thin, and covered w/gravy, and if you want lettuce and tomato, you say you want it dressed, that includes mayo. I wouldn't buy crawfish from them but the gumbo was good, and the ambiance is very French Quarter. Love the decor, and the service.

I'll never go back...the service was sub-par and the manager was clueless. I was hoping the food would be spectacular and make up for it. Unfortortunately I was disappointed. Wasn't bad, just wasn't great and definitely overpriced. We had reservations that were not honored and they refused to split the bill for any size party. Fine, just tell your customer that when they reserve for a large group. BAD, BAD, BAD!!!!

Never take a large group to Fishbones! I made my reservations rather easily, but when part of our party showed up, the manager said that she talked to me the day before to cancel our reservation. THIS NEVER HAPPENED! Why would 21 people show up for a reservation if we had canceled it? Basically the manager had messed up and decided to take it out on our party. They were able to seat us (afer taking away seats when the whole party wasn't there right on time for a reservation that supposedly didn't exist 20 minutes before), however, our service was the worst service I have EVER received at a restaurant. They refuse to separate out checks, even for groups of 4 or 6. And for parties of 8 or more, they include a tip of 18 % which is much more than deserved based on our experience. (I worked as a server for several years and I'm normally a very, very good tipper). For the most part, the food was good, but when we returned later in the evening for drinks after a game, we were treated like criminals. Again, they wouldn't accomodate a large group, even though the place was completely dead in the bar area. We couldn't even move tables around. Then it was all going to be on one bill again. Like I said, I've worked as a server and it literally takes no extra time to separate out checks. To make matters worse, they wouldn't serve us after our first round! I have NEVER had such poor service at a restaurant. The terrible service definitely outweighs the convenience of the location. I truly can't imagine how the manager keeps her job after the mistakes SHE made and treating her customers in such a rude manner. I highly suggest you find a different restaurant downtown...there are many great ones right across the street from Fishbones!

The atmosphere and the food is great. I'm a Washington DC resident and I felt more at home in Detroit. If your looking for great food, music and just good people then look no further...Fishbone's has it all!

At one time Fishbones' was the place to be, but I don't get that feeling any more. In the last maybe five years or so the whole attitude of the restaurant has changed from good to almost bad. I enjoy the fact its downtown, therefore we get a melting pot of different cultures, I love that.In fact that was one of the things I went to Fishbones for, because I love to mingle with all people. But it hasn't been enough to bring me back there as a customer. My favorite dish Primavera w/seafood, (I think) use to be a great dish until their was hardly any seafood involved. I always had to order extra and the extra looks like THATS THE WAY IT SHOULD'VE COME IN THE FIRST PLACE! So why am I paying extra? Also it takes so long to get your food, we almost cancelled our order. Seating is very close, I don't mind, but sometimes others do-especially if they're trying to be alone with their companion. The menu could use some sprucing up from the looks to whats in it. And it's ok to actually SEASON the food. Some people can't have salt, I realize that...but would it hurt for the food to have actual TASTE!?! Fishbones' will survive because of its location, the regulars, the lunch crew and the curious. Maybe just a few tweeks here and there and wallah!! You've got a five star restaurant!
