Description

When this once-obscure hole-in-the-wall expanded from a bar and pool room to a big restaurant, it marked the revival of the western portion of Mexicantown. Now Xochimilco is so popular that crowds regularly fill its three dining rooms on the first floor and crowd into second-floor cubicles. Plenty of competitors have opened their doors, but Xochimilco is still the top spot for its dependability. The formula is simple: generous portions of Mexican staples, including tasty guacamole and gargantuan burritos. The price has remained affordable, and people keep coming nightly until 2a for drinks and munchies.

I would have to say that this is the best restaurant in Mexican Town. It has the highest quality food, and I like the atmosphere there better than I do any of the others. Whenever I go back to Mexican Town, this is where I will be eating.

I've been going here almost thirty years. When it's time for my last meal, I want it to be Xochimilco's super nachos! The food is good, portions huge and the prices low. The staff has always been pleasant. It's a pity since the casinos came in and the I-75 exits rearranged that the crowds aren't what they used to be. Mexican Town as a whole is one of Detroit's underapprecated gems.

Terrible service, rude staff. My group of 10 was asked to leave because we were accused of being too loud. When in reality it was the bachelorette party next to us. Sometimes you should know what you are talking about before you open your mouth. We dropped a ton of cash there in the past, but wont get another dime from any of us again. HORRIBLE!!!

When I lived in St. Clair Shores, we went to Xochimilco's at least twice a week. Now, I make the (2) hour drive to Xochi's at least twice a month. I read a review, here, that the service was poor, and to that I must respond that in our experience, (and we've been there so many time over the past thirty years), the service is always friendly and the food is the best in Detroit! Each birthday and anniversary is spent in Downtown Detroit's Mexican Village enjoying our favorite eaterie!

I have been going to xochimilco for over 20 yrs and they have ALWAYS been excellent. My wife and I continue to bring our children for lunch, after church, or after attending an event downtown. The waitstaff is efficient and the food is always good, my favorites are the enchiladas with chicken, my wifes is the nachos with botana toppings. I admit I miss the older gentlman who used to greet you when you came in, he was always friendly and knew me by my face and would sometimes if it was crowded, get me in ahead of others. So Lord willing this will always be my familys spot. THEY ARE THE BEST!!

This is a fun, inexpensive restaurant. The food is good and and the waitstaff is very pleasant. I have been there three or four times over several years and always had a nice meal. The margaritas are huge and do the trick. Order the chicken (pollo) in mole sauce, the fried shrimp, or the nopales (cactus) with scrambled eggs and you will not go wrong. We got the small guacamole (a generous serving) and it was very delicious. The chips were hot (freshly made) and the two salsas (one a mild, fresh one, the other much spicier, roasted flavor) were very good. Very diverse crowd and easy parking.
