Food was OK. Just OK. We ordered the Sangria, which was perfectly awful.. I think they forgot that there should be some wine in the pitcher. .... The fruit in the sangria appeared to be the spent lemons and limes from the kitchen. Don't waste your money in hopes of getting something wonderful.

I was dinning at the restaurant recently. I was pretty satisfied with the meal and the server knew the menu very well. The atmosphere was terrible, I don't know what the music was or why it was so god awful, but it was terrible. The heating and cooling system must have been broken because it was never a constant temperature. Maybe they have a draft or it was just an off day, but the temperature kept fluctuating from too cold, to too hot. The thing that really grinds my gears was what I saw towards the end of the night. I was in the back of the restaurant and heard an old man yelling at one of the servers. It looked like he was the manager, but he wasn't dressed in the professional manner that one would expect a manager to dress in. I don't know if he was a manager or owner, or just someone complaining about something. I saw him walking around most of the night, eating something and seeming to get in everyone's business. I do not respect a restaurant that treats employees in that way, or lets their employees be treated that way. I will not be going back to that restaurant. I will not be supporting a restaurant that doesn't respect their employees. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND GOING TO THIS RESTAURANT AND I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS RESTAURANT.

I've never ordered anything here that I fell in love with, but it's ok enough that I do occasionally come back. I go there more for their desserts. Their carrot cake accompanied by vanilla gelatto is excellent.

I have lived in ann arbor for years, and never went there. After my recent first visit I am kicking myself. I really liked the food. Southern Italian: Creative, but still hearty and not pretentious at all. The staff was attentive, and knew the menu. Our server was prescient- he left us alone, but always seemed to show up about 5 seconds before we needed something. Special preparations and modifications to the menu are welcomed if you like. This is a place I will go again. We had a birthday dinner there, but it seems like it would be perfect place to take out of town guests, or for a get-together with friends. Relaxed atmosphere. If you go for dinner, I suggest a light lunch because portions were more than adequate. Five stars for good solid preparation, interesting recipes, casual atmosphere, and attentive staff.

Fair Italian in an upbeat setting. The food is OK, the atmosphere better and the location good for campus proximity. Good date place.

I totally disagree with the other review. Palio is one of my favorite restaurants! I have introduced this restaurant to many different family members and friends and not a one thought that it was less then fantastic. The food is delicious. It is Italian food, but I like to describe it as authentic Italian, not Americanized Italian like some of the more popular chains (you know which ones I am talking about). If you go there you cannot leave without having a piece of their tiramisu. It is the best I have ever had! The one negative thing that I can say about this establishment is that it is a bit pricey. Look to spend about $60 for two to dine, and that doesn't include alcohol or appetizers.

went here for my bday. worst bday dinner ever. 1st ordered something that turned out to be completely BLAND, too saucy (watery saucy by the way), and drenched in peas. i saw that it had peas, but 50% of the dish? SICK! did not smell, taste, or even look italian. they took it back b/c i complained and i ordered a veal w/orzo instead. turned out to be even more disgusting. the sauce was so puke-inducing i'm gagging at the mere thought. brown thick sauce should be left to the 3 bears and goldilocks - you know with their porridge. this sauce was SO NASTY. then, i got tiramisu. it was OK. but not worth writing home about. i've had better from the dry food aisle at bello vino. and even with the birthday discount, the bill was still way more than an average of $11.95-$17.95 per person, and we only ordered one lame little appetizer that did not taste authentic italian at all. it was bruschetta and tasted like pizza. this place has it ALL wrong. the atmosphere is good, but the food is SICK. plus, our waiter was serving 4 different tables, two of which had over 7 people. therefore, our service was not as timely as i would have liked it toh ave been on my bday, but at least he was nice. the end.
