Bath City Bistro
The first bath house in Mt. Clemens, called the ORIGINAL, was constructed in 1873 and marked the beginning of the city's fabulous bath era, the city later to become known as the "Bath City of America," and famous around the world. In 1870 a Mount Clemens flour mill proprietor, Dor Kellogg, had cured his severe case of eczema by bathing in the salty mineral water, and a local physician, Dr. Abner Hayward, had started prescribing bathing for his patients suffering from rheumatism. Interest in the curative powers of the city's mineral waters continued, and as a result Dr. Henry Taylor, another Mount Clemens physician, built the first bath house so that the mineral-rich waters could be pumped from the wells into large tubs.
My husband and I have been to Bath City Bistro several times. For the most part they are very good and have great service. But I think it's hit and miss. On busy days when there's an event downtown, they're a miss. I would pass on the pizza too, it's ok but I think Jets on 16 & Harper makes better pizza.
This is the best restaurant in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne County...my favorite is the Perch dinners...I have them sauteed instead of pan fried, but heard the pan fried is also wonderful...Great service and warm atmosphere. Great food and good prices :)
although a previous review bashed i believe that the food and atmosphere is great at this establishment, I can go there on a weekend and have a meal before hitting a bar, or i can come in there with my family and have a meal, an intimate setting but with the option to play beligian trough bowling.....good night starter
I eat here several times a month and my husband always takes visiting business contacts here for lunch. The atmosphere, food, service and prices make for a best combined option in The Clem. Since the Fondue Room closed, I would opt Bath City as the best place to eat, drink, or have a party in one of the feather bowling lanes.
The Bistro Calamari is awesome. They only have it on special, usually on Saturdays, but sometimes more often. It is the best I have ever had, they only serve it fresh, lightly breaded and pan fried, with some capers and bruchetta-type garnish.
Their specials are always good. I have never had the pizza, but I would stick to entrees. I have met several of the staff over the years, and they only hire passionate cooks that love what they do. Mount Clemens has had tons of turn-over as far as restaurants and bars over the years, but Bath City has outlived them all, I know for a fact the first time I went there was in 2000.
Mature crowd, great food and beer selection, as well as a nice wine list. I would definitely choose Bath City over Downtown Luigi's. They have recently redone their booths, and decor. Give them a try and make reservations on the weekend!
