I love this place. Fish and chips are the best. I've been too many times to count.

Three different trips to the Lion, and I have found it to be a great place each time. Food is excellent, and the service was outstanding as well. Drink prices a bit high, but Guinnes on draft is a perfect fit for an Irish establishment. I highly recommend this place.

I wouldn't waste your time, the owners are very rude and have been known around town to be the cheapest and stingiest people around. The prices are outrageous, and as for the atmosphere, the word dirty comes to mind, Go to Opies for a great burger, or Nicks for a true Bloomington tradition. Don't give these guys your cash, it would be an insult to decency.

This is a nice, homey, down-right good pub. Authentic in it's decor and food. The owner is a quick, witty gentlemen with a very humorous Irish accent that made me giggle in delight when he laughed. The service was quick and freindly. A true delight when in Bloomington.

I hope they were just having a bad day...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/25/08
I had heard really good things about the Irish Lion, so I took my husband there for his birthday... It was 15 minutes after we entered the restaurant before anyone so much as acknowledged that we had walked in. When we were placing our order, a customer at a nearby table stumbled and nearly fell down, and the waiter laughed at her and called her a fatass just loud enough for us to hear - I don't know if he thought we would think that funny, but we didn't. He also brought my husband the wrong kind of beer, and when we brought it to his attention, he offered to bring the other, and we said it wasn't that big a deal, we didn't want to wait, but then he charged us for the one we did NOT order, which was more expensive! We didn't feel like we should have to pay extra because he made a mistake. The food was bland, the meat was on the tough side, and it was fairly expensive. The service was incredibly slow, and to top it all off, there was some kind of doctor's meeting going on upstairs, so when we went up to use the restrooms, we were treated to 6 foot tall images of open sores on a projection screen. This is kind of funny in retrospect, but at the time it was the single worst restaurant experience I have ever had. We love most of the local restaurants, but we certainly won't be going back to this one.

Nice establishment, great service on the first go. Pulled a pint a little slow but make up for in the service. Meals are great priced and the beer is fresh.

I love the potato puff appetizers. Also they have Guiness on tap. Where else would you want to get draft Guiness but at an Irish restarant?

Definitely check it out
By Jennifer, 6/1/07
I have been going here for years. Good food, good drinks. The appetizers are huge. You could have one as a meal. Consistent, with a wide selection of food and drink choices. Their corned beef is the best I have ever had...lean, but falls apart. Good service, too. Which is nearly impossible to find in Bloomington.

Good, but expensive for a student
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/10/05
This isn't one that can be a regular on the student budget, but it's got great food and an excellent beer selection. There's also a great scotch selection, if you're into that.
