If you walk in The Siding and can't figure out that there's seating to your immediate left and you end up in the dining car which is up the stairs and to the right, you need a new seeing eye dog. Sorry but you really have to try to be confused about where the seating is. I've been eating there for several years and it's clean, the food is good and the service is excellent.

I see a lot of good reviews but our visit was poor at best. We went for a midday lunch, approx 12:30 pm. There was no one to great us at the door and had to guess which way to go. Once we wondered toward the area with the dining cars we had to gets the staff's attention. There was a minimal crowd but had to wait way too long to place the orders then way too long to get the food which was good but incorrect to our order. As we waited we have plenty of time to note how unclean the area was. Our booth had cobwebs and dead flies in the window. Yuck. In all it was a very disappointing experience especially considering my love of railroads and the expectations I had in going there.

Has anyone used their catering? My reception hall recommended them for my wedding. ARe they priced reasonably? Is the food decent?

I have read many reviews of this restaurant and can only say no restaurant will please everyone, but I have to agree with the majority of the reviewers. My wife and I must drive 25 miles to get to The Siding and we have been there pobably a dozen times. I've never been disappointed in the food, the price, the atmosphere, or the service. No, it is not the Taj Mahal, it is what it is...rustic, nostalgic, unique, different, whatever superlative you choose. As long as the board of health approves it, I don't have a problem with it. Making a living in a profession where customer service is key, the question is always "Would you recommend this place to your family and friends". I would have no problem recommending The Siding ( and have in the past) to others.

Well for the money you spend you should get more for your money but I don't' think we will return do to a specific water hitting on my child. Gross I know and I'm not the type that would even post this but I feel it should be known for what it is worth. They have a fun atmosphere but the place defiantly needs worked on. I also found that last time we went that the croutons where used bread made into croutons. I know they have watch there costs but come on.

Average food - seafood buffet is okay. Service was excellent (Jeff is a great waiter with personality PLUS). The atmosphere is great and the train car dining is unique. Recommend.

Good food at a reasonable price. Great atmosphere - love the live piano! Jeff is the most fantastic waiter we've ever had! He knows his food, his wine and how to make people feel both at home and special!

Wonderful setting & food
By Felicitous Dove, 11/9/06
We have visited this establishment a couple of times over the years. In my opinion, i feel that The Siding is one of Indiana's best kept secrets. The ambiance of the old dinning cars, low lights and victorian decor are wonderful. The service couldn't be better. The waiter we have had the last few times, is reminiscent of an old Victorian butler. He is polite, charming, always there when you need him, but not obtrusive. the food is always superb, and the price for meals is good. The selections on the menu as well as the buffet are a rare treat.

GREAT PLACE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

This is an AWESOME place. I had a Jack Daniels Ribeye and it was fantastic. My 9 year old loves to eat in the old Train Cars.
