Daruma Japanese Restaurant, Indianapolis

Very good. However used to be much better when Oku was there!

Daruma: This place has wonderful ambience- I have never been to Japan, of course, but I imagine the design of Daruma is relatively authentic. Low tables make it unique. Staff are friendly and often remember us from previous visits. However, the last time we were there (fall 2007) we did not think the food was as good as it used to be. The warm hand towels they gave us at the beginning to wash with smelled musty (not a good start). Nice ambience, but I'm not sure we'll be back any time soon. It's a shame, because we really liked this place.

Daruma, located near the corner of Michigan and 86th, is the place to go for a wonderful authentic atmosphere. I decided to go one evening with some friends just to try it out. We were more than just pleased and satisfied, the sushi was more than fresh, and the dinner was nice, hot and fulfilling. This is not a place to be concerned about when it comes to cash, for what we spent it was very reasonable and far from skimpy, we left simply satisfied and we felt great. This is the ideal place to take a spouse, date, or even just some good friends. Daruma is a bit much for family excursions, but certainly is friendly enough. The servers, and such; were warm, and most welcoming, 4 stars and a fraction of the fifth, due to its location. I hope you take the time to give them a chance, and you will not be disappointed
