Mama Carollas Old Italian Restaurant
Mama CarollaA's villa was built by the RH Shelborn Company in the 1920A's as a model home for a new style of homes to be built o the Indianapolis north side. This California Stucco design incorporates a Mediterranean style with a little touch of Spanish and Italian, and can be seen in several houses throughout the Meridian-Kessler neighborhood. Although the house has changed hands several times (it has been a home to several families, a glass factory, and a woodworking shop), its dA(C)cor is strikingly similar t the original design. All of the wrought iron, and most of the light fixtures remain. Additional lighting consists of period fixtures in order to maintain the historical charm. And on winter nights, a wood burning fires glows in the fireplace exuding the warmth and family spirit of the house.
We enjoy going here. There are issues with it, though. The hours they are open aren't very long. It is very romantic and the food is good, but there are better values for better food on 54th St for italian food. See my review of Marco's...
Mama Carolla's is the home of my first date with my husband. We have been back numerous times alone and with friends and family. Everything is delicious... from the appetizers, Reisling wine, and the Salmon with dill sauce. Their specials often are one of a kind! It has a wonderful atmosphere and service to match.
We LOVE Mama Corrolla's. I lived around the corner from it for 2 years and never discovered how wonderful the food and atmosphere was until I had moved away. Reasonably priced, excellent selections and Great Atmosphere, ESPECIALLY in the summer time!!
Eveything about this place is beautiful...the restaurant is actually a model home...it's 2 stories with hardwood floors, nice, romantic lighting and indoor and outdoor seating....i've been here on many occasions and have loved everything i've ever had there....i highly recommend this place...call ahead for hours tho--not open normal hours, basically dinner and closed either sunday or monday? but well worth the wait and drive to just south of broad ripple, oh yeah and a full service bar....parking in the rear.....enjoy!!
This was my first time and i was impressed with the ambiance and the outstanding service. Outside seating area reminds me of some beautiful restaurants in italy. Well done. However, I was somewhat dissapointed with the food overall. The appetizer was merely average tasting. There are better ways to prepare caprese. The garden salad with the vinegrette dressing was ok. It felt like someone just dumped some generic salad greens on a plate and added some package dressing. The salad seemed somewhat old.I missed a better variety of salad greens, some raddiccio, water cress among others. The main dish -- Tilapia with angel hair pasta was wonderful. Tiramisu was good. Good wine selection. I will try again.
