Description

In 1928, Mr. V.D. Vincent began serving friends and old-time customers of his in-town restaurant special dinners at their then Country Cottage in Northern Marion County. Because of the many beautiful hollyhocks on the premises, it soon became known as HOLLYHOCK HILL and has retained this name ever since. In 1947, Hollyhock Hill was acquired by Mr. & Mrs. Hubert Kelso. Mr. & Mrs. Jay Snyder joined Hollyhock Hill in 1958 and acquired ownership upon Mr. & Mrs. Kelso's retirement in 1992. Many changes and innovations have long since become a part of the current menu and decor.Hollyhock Hill is one of very few family-style restaurant operations still in existence in the U.S.A., and has been a highly remembered dining experience for customers from all 50 states and numerous foreign countries for almost seventy years. So, "Welcome to HOLLYHOCK HILL" means much . . . I havent been here but I wont go now that I see that you have to pay 17.00 for the chicken dinner and the only thing I want is chicken. My 13 year old is the same price.

Old Fasion Treat
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/6/07
When I visited Indiana, I made it a point to visit Hollyhock, my wife introduced me to the fine style of dining surrounded in an old country setting. The food was excellent and an afternoon just relaxing and enjoying friends and family and wonderful drinks made me not want to leave. The only problems Hollyhock has is they need to provide a crane and motor carrier to take you to your vehicle as one tends to eat to much. As a native of California, I really enjoyed the service and food. Thank you for letting me visit and I will visit again next time I'm in town.

Family Traditions Prevail
By Disappointed, 5/19/07
We also have gone to Hollyhock Hill for June birthdays! Come on people, how could you not like the chicken?! Sure they are canned beans, beets, cottage cheese, corn...but it kind of reminds me of when you eat at your grandma's house on a Sunday. It is a great place for family celebrations and traditionally we will always go in June. We only had one complaint from a member of our entourage about the food and he said maybe we should change our tradition....we will...our tradition will now exclude him!

Trsut me; not worth it
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/16/07
I challenge anyone to say that, growing up, they have visited this place more than I have. Having now returned as an adult, either this place or my palate has undergone a major change. While I still love the atmosphere, the food left me disappointed. Nothing like paying good money for canned vegetables served at room temperature. In addition, I have had better steak while eating lunch at my daughter's grade school cafeteria! Many locals simply allow the ambiance to temporarily dull their sense of taste. Be honest, if you removed this food into a less unique setting, you would never pay more than a few dollars.
