Hello, have to write you and tell you that I spent a week there in Indianapolis, and asked all over the best place to eat, finally we found you, I feel that we hit the jackpot on places to eat, Totally the best BBQ food I have ever eaten, even better than the high buck resturants, I will be back next year again and will drive that distance to find good food again. Again, Thank You from Minnesota
It was a good thing we had a restaurant.com certificate to use at this restaurant last night because I would have hated paying full price for what we got! It was hard to accept that we had an 18% gratuity automatically added to the bill (required by restaurant.com) for service that was not even worth 10%. The waitress took FOREVER to even greet us, then we were hard pressed to find her when we needed something else. She was friendly...I'll give her that much. The food arrived quickly & after one bite, I knew why. It was lukewarm! The meat was served dry (ok, I can put my own sauce on it), but it was DRY! My meal was $18.50 & the pulled pork was the only thing decent on the plate. The chicken was dry white meat...Yuk! The 4 rib bones were so dry that the meat on top was hard to chew & crusty. The brisket...well, let's just say I prefer the pre-packaged smoked brisket I get from Sam's Club. The cornbread muffin was more like a cornbread rock...very dry & it stuck to the cupcake paper so you only get about 3/4 of the muffin out anyway. The mac & cheese reminded me of the dry cheese stuff you get in a school cafeteria, but the green beans were nicely seasoned and flavorful.
My son ordered the Jumbo Pulled Pork Sandwich which was enormous & enjoyed by him. For a $7.00 meal, it was acceptable. My husband ordered the brisket meal...3 boiled potatoes in a bowl with NO butter or seasoning, but said the beans were ok. Again, it was not living up to what was expected from an establishment that professes expertise in BBQ.
At the end of the meal, we had not reached our minimum bill for the coupon, so we asked about dessert (after waiting for the waitress for about 10 minutes). She explained the choices & we decided on 3 items to take home. The chocolate cake, the carrot cake (we asked & were told there were NO RAISINS in the carrot cake), and peach cobbler. I was glad I checked it before we left because she gave us blackberry cobbler instead of the peach. That was corrected & we left after paying. Once we had gotten home, my husband discovered that the carrot cake was LOADED with raisins which he hates! What a disappointing evening out. We will not go back & will let others know of our experience.
Good: The chick and pork were cooked very well, the sauce was great
Bad: girl greeting us wearing twilight shirt messing around on her phone, DIRTY floor, i mean food all over the floor! Side of potatoes was just three small cooked potatoes in a bowl, not cut, seasoned or anything. poor selection of appetizers (a whole 2), desert cake was dry, macaroni and cheese was bland.
if i go back i might get some takeout, i don't feel clean eating there.
Just tried the pulled pork sandwich and it was very dry.
Service was extremely slow and we were the only ones in there.
This is the second time we have bad this experience.
Will not give them a third chance.
Stop four of our journey... Private Owned Restaurants in Johnson & Marion County.
Service was good, but we were one party of about 4 in the place.
Food was southern cooked bar-b-q. Wet ribs, dry ribs, pulled pork, pulled chicken, the everyway I could think of ... It was there!!! Hot was available, medium was nice, mild was delightful (and full flavored).
Beer is all a person would want here, but cocktails are on the menu as well.
Seating was normal for your average bar and grill establishment. With some pig Decor. (IF YOU GO, DON'T FORGET TO BRING IN YOUR STUFFED PIG TO LEAVE BEHIND)
Tables and floors were clean, bathrooms likewise.
All-in-all a family dinner or drinkin with buddies. This is the place to visit!
As a true southerner who knows what real BBQ is supposed to be, I have not been able to find it on the southside of Indy. Until I came across GT Souths! Wooooeee! Talk about good! This meat is incredible - get the combo platter so you can taste 'em all! The potato salad and green beans are like Gramommy used to make. And the BBQ sauce is just like my favorite BBQ place in Dallas. The prices are absolutely incredible, the wait staff are pleasant and the environment is plain but very clean. Your palate will do kartwheels!!! You gotta try it to see how the chains are gettin' it wrong.
I am from the South so when I see some place say that they have true southern BBQ ... I usually laugh. However, GT's keeps that promise. They are actually dry smoking their meats to tender perfection ... just like a true southerner would! The staff is always friendly and knowledgable. Also, the take out is just as good as eating in ... which is a huge bonus in my busy life!
My one complaint/concern ... beware of the owner ... hot-heads-r-us is the best description I have on this fellow. So, I avoid him and stick to the great food and excellent service!!!!
While many claim to have authentic BBQ GT's delivers! I prefer the pulled BBQ chicken but the pulled pork is wonderful as is all their sides. The BBQ baked beans and mac and cheese are the highlights. Their burgers are good too. Check it out.
