I used my Mothers Day Groupon and was very disappointed. I had the shrimp alfredo and the sauce was very bland and thin. I will not be going back to this restaurant as the prices were too high for the quality of food.
We ate at this restaurant with a social living coupon. What a mistake! The food was bland and the prices were unreasonable. My biggest complaint is that the hostess misrepresented the cost of one of food items and charged us an extra $10.00 after she agreed that she made a mistake on communicating the cost of the item. Nevertheless, we were expected to pay for the item. I would never go back to this restaurant. I think this hostess intentionally cheated us to make more money. Believe me on this one, the food is below quality and taste. My chicken was soggy and tasted like it just came out of the freezer before they cooked it. I am upset that they cheated me and the quality of food was extremely poor.
My husband and I enjoyed a rare night out at Amici's tonight. I like the ambiance - quirky, eclectic and fun. (The ambiance is better after dark.) The service was good and courteous. The wine was very good and reasonably priced. The bread and salad courses were delicious. The entree, however, left me a bit unsatisfied. I had the CHICKEN BOTTICELLI (chicken breast with ham - not prosciutto - and white garlic sauce with penne and marinara). The marinara and garlic sauces were good, but it seemed odd to have two different sauces on the same plate. The chicken sadly had no flavor of its own. It tasted like a frozen Tyson chicken breast had been baked with no seasoning. It was also miniscule. There was nothing wrong with the meal per se, it just seemed a little too much like Tuesday supper with the kids and not an expensive date night with the hubby.
If you're reading this, Amici's, here's my recommendation. #1 - Cut your prices. One shouldn't have to use a coupon to feel like they're getting their money's worth. $10 - $12 a plate is much more reasonable considering what you're giving.
#2 - Be generous with portions, refills, olive oil and etc. Don't make the customer feel like you are going to gouge them price wise (that's just how I felt tonight).
#3 - Clean up the place just a little. The ambiance is good; don't change that. But it's a little sloppy. i.e. The mini blinds are crooked and don't fit the window. And the women's bathroom trash was full at the very beginning of the night.
#4 - Add just a little pizzaz to your dishes. They are decent, but just a little extra seasoning would make them excellent.
I love local-run restaurants and I would love for Amici's to do really well. I'm just afraid that if tonight's meal was an example of the norm you will lose customers. Don't be defensive. Take the constructive criticism and become what you claim to be - the best Italian restaurant in Indy.
This is probably the worst mom and pop restaurant ive ever been to. I ordered a seafood dish that smelt like rotting fish with 3 month old veggies on it. This wouldnt have been that big of a deal if they werent charging $14 for the meal. Would you like a dash of olive oil with your bread? That will be $3 please. There is no heart and soul in this food, youre better off eating at olive garden.
I agree with the previous post. I have lived in Indy just a little over 10 years and enjoyed some lovely meals here in this nice old building. But in the past five or six years it has gone way, way downhill. The men's restroom is upstairs, and the past few times I have visited it, the upstairs has been full of dirty dinnerware. Appetizing. The bread is still OK, but the entrees are mediocre, and the SALAD -- the easiest thing in the world to make right, right? -- has a base of brown lettuce. I have driven by a few times recently, and there have been good crowds, but I am not willing to give it another try after three mediocre to disgusting meals here.
I originally ate here some years back. I remember generous portions, rich sauce, and really hearty food. I just ate there tonight and the first thing when I got home was to get on here and write how bad it was on as many review site as possible. Let me say one good thing about this place before I give my negative opinion 1) it is a cool old place. I ordered linguine and Italian sausage it cost about $15.00. It did not have hardly any sauce on it, there was no garlic taste at all none. The two sausages were cooked to long and the portion very small. I never was asked for a refill of my wine. There was not a salt and pepper shaker at any of the tables upstairs. No fresh parmesan cheese was offered for the plate. So small portion +no garlic+no sauce+no taste= $15.00. I tell you what if you do decide to eat here anyway. If you decide you think it is poor as well then make sure to write your review to include I tol you so in it.
