Acapulco Joe's Mexican Foods
Half a century ago, Acapulco Joe's founder Joe Rangel brought the flavors of his native country to the United States in an exuberant downtown venue. Just steps away from Monument Circle is a legendary Indianapolis favorite with its own unique style and historic charm. Acapulco Joe's resounds daily to the tune of Kate Smith's "God Bless America" to celebrate Joe Rangel's rags-to-riches journey. Behind the iconic neon sign, revelers dine amid the parquet floors and hanging serapes. On the spacious outdoor patio, murals depicting the Mexican desert reflect like dusty mirrors against views of the city.
I guess this place is ok as long as you don't go during the lunch or dinner hour, or on the weekends. A typical visit will include a 15-20 wait for a table, less than stellar food, and a restaurant that must have been used as an airplane hangar in a past life. You can actually hear every conversation in the place echoing off the walls. The food is so-so, but not worth the price. Try it once if you're curious and have a lot of free time on your hands.
I moved from Indiana to the Austin Texas area a few years back. Let me tell you there isnt a single mexican restaurant down here as good as Alcapulco Joes. I miss there chips and salsa, there burritoes covered within golden cheese. You have a real gem right there in Indy.
Joe's ambiance is friendly and fun. If you are looking for pretense, you won't find it at Joe's. What you will find is tortilla ships and salsa made fresh daily while you wait for the best con queso ever. Every meal is piled high and with a wonderful flavor. I have actually never ordered anything at Joe's I didn't love. The chimi's are awesome and Joe's tostada is a favorite. If you are in INdy and like Mexican, you cannot leave without trying Acapulco Joe's.
The chips were stale. It sure wasnt woth the price. on top of that, our waitress took it opon herself to add extra on our tab for her tip, when we left cash on the table for her. i will never go back. I dont know what has happened over the last few years to this place, but at this rate they wont be open very long. i wouldn t recommend to ANYONE. DO NOT GO!!!!
