If you live downtown or Broad Ripple and you're a follower then Yat's is for you. Mediocre Creole offerings driven by hype. The truth? Yat's is an economical, good place to dine if you're on a budget and tired of the Subways, etc., that dot nearly every corner downtown. But to die for, as most followers insist? No. It's no wonder that the Yat's in Chicago, Fishers aren't doing the numbers. Those locations are far away from the Goth-Mad Men crowd downtown and cannot count upon hipness, only quality, which simply isn't there.
Better than the deceased J.Gumbo's? Sure. Better than Todd's 'Distillery? No.
But it's America, where image is everything, so I expect they'll survive. They're what Alcapulco Joe's is to authentic Mexican. A popular pretender, popular being the key word.
