Since 1979 El Sol de Tala has been serving AUTHENTIC Mexican Cuisine. Our dishes are made with premium meats and vegetables hand-picked by our chefs and prepared to order. You will taste the difference and see why we are an Indianapolis institution. Our margaritas are second to none, made with the finest reposado tequilas for a smooth taste and top quality fruits for a wonderful compliment to your taste buds. Our interior dining area contains old world rustic Mexican architecture, like you are stepping in to a hacienda in Mexico. From our Two ton lime stone carved fountain to our "Barra de los Changos" tequila bar you will be amazed and tantalized by our service and warmth, like your family. And don't forget about our made to order fresh tropical guacamole made with fresh mango chunks and walnuts. There is something for everybody at Sol, come and experience Mexico one dish at a time. Te esperaremos, Ruben L Pazmino Jr. Managing Partner
I will probably spend my old age in a place like El Sol, just propped up in a corner with a margarita in hand. There are a lot of decent restaurants in Indy, but this is my personal favorite. Just fantastic.
this restaurant is one of hte best that can be afforded by college students that inhabit the city of indianapolis. it has a certain ambiance that speaks to my own hispanic heritage, and there is a large enough variety of foodstuffs that a second or third or fourth trip is always on the menu. i would suggest that you reccomend this restaurant to your friends and maybe when your out of town friends come by, you take them there for lunch or dinner
When you walk in (the Union Station Location) you are greeted with an amazingly detailed fountain. In my opinion, it is darn cool! The tables & chairs are carved into thinks like celestial bodies (sun / moon) and animals. You may think it is going to be expensive, but I ate like (and was treated like) a king for about $25 (for two). Portions are generous, and the wait staff was attentive - even the manager (or owner?) dropped by the table to ask if we were enjoying! If you like Mexican food and good service, coupled with a very unique ambiance, you'll love El Sol De Tala! Enjoy!
El Sol has recently reopened in the original East Washington Street location. I ate there on April 8, 2008 and found the food to be as good as it had been in the past. We started with an order of guacamole as an appetizer in addition to the chips and salsa. The guacamole was freshly made and the chips were fresh. My food was served hot and was brought to our table with fresh chips and salsa. The only change to the food was the salad has been updated from the standard shredded lettuce and salsa with sour cream on top to mixed field greens with a spicy vinaigrette dressing. The service was OK for a Tuesday night. When we arrived there were about 10 or 12 other tables and only two servers. Our server was very attentive but a bit over whelmed by the number of customers she had to keep up with.
I will definitely be returning to El Sol and have already invited friends to go along for the experience of some of Indy’s best authentic Mexican food.
MY FAMILY HAVE BEEN GOING TO EL SOL FOR 18 YEARS IT STARTED OUT WITH A COUPLE OF TABLES IN A HALLWAY BOY HAS IT CHANGED ITS LOOKS. THE OWNER STILL CHECKS ON US. I WENT AFTER THE OPENING FOR MY BDAY AND THE SERVICE WAS NOT VERY GOOD, I AM GOING TO TELL JAVIER ABOUT THIS DOWN FALL. FOOD WAS GREAT LIKE ALWAYS. GOING BACK TONIGHT.
Horrible.: This place is very deceiving. It is downtown and it looks cool because it is (was) in a train station looking part in Indy. We'll start with service. They do not speak nor comprehend english very well, at least not that night. The waitress couldn't understand what Rum is, she should have been able to tell me all they have is magaritas, cerveza and tequila or soft drinks. Service is exceptionally slow but they were attentive to their mexican co-workers though. Next is food quality. The salsa is truely water and the queso, also water. I ordered the steak and chicken quesdillas. Underdone chicken and dogfood for steak. Price can't be considered for service and food this bad. Won't even get a second chance. Places like this are why people think Chipotle is authentic mexican food.
We have dined here 5 times since re-opening. Food is good but service is AWFUL. We actually left tonight without being waited on in 15 minutes. It was not that busy. Many servers walked past us without taking an order. We had menus so it should have been obvious. Service has not gotten better and we are done. What a shame. Food is good but a 2 hour dinner (becasue of very poor service) isn't worth it.
Prices have also gone up. Good service would make it ok but it isn't there.
