Been there twice now. The first visit, several months ago, I ordered the fish special, and it was some of the fishiest tasting and driest fish I ve ever had. Almost inedible. Someone else in my party ordered the shrimp curry, and I tasted it and it was very good. So, leaving it to the possibility it was just the particular kind of fish (I don t remember the name of it now, but it was obscure) I decided to give it another try today. I was going to order the orange roughy b/c it sounded delicious, but the waitress warned me that it smelled really fishy and she recommended the Seafood Trio which on the menu stated it was shrimp, crab, and scallops. I took a couple of bites and at first it tasted very good. Then I took a close look and tasted the crab that was in it. It was artificial crab meat, like fast food restaurants sell, which tastes nothing like crab and is molded and died red on the outside to imitate the look of crab meat taken from crab legs. I have never seen any level of reputable restaurant pull something like this. The more of it I ate, the taste of the whole dish became sort of bland. I told the waitress, while it was good, it really was not acceptable to sell something as crab on the menu that was imitation crab. She stated that they just couldn t put imitation crab on the menu! (I assume she meant b/c that would sound unpalatable or something.) I don t know what I was looking for from her--she acknowledged it was fake crab meat, but insisted that I ate the meal (and I did eat all of the shrimp, the scallops and about half of the fake molded crab stuff and almost none of the rice) so she couldn t comp it. She argued with me that it was still a good price. I don t know if it was or wasn t, that wasn t the point, and I do know I wouldn t not have ordered it if I knew what it was. I told her I didn t expect it to be free, and I didn t bring it up with that objective, but it just wasn t honest for them to sell fake molded died fish as crab, and expect the customer to pay for that when they ordered crab. She said she couldn t discount it and I had to pay the full price. I offered to take a couple dollars off the price, over principle, and she wouldn t accept that. I suggested she then call the police and tell them I was refusing to pay for my meal, and see what they would do when they learned of the fraudulent menu. She left to go call them, apparently talked to other employees in the restaurant, (there was no manager there and she said she couldn t call one) and came back and told me to leave. The more I thought about it on the way home, the more I couldn t believe what they were doing--every other restaurant and grocery store in town, and everywhere, has to comply with the law, and it isn t fair to them that Bella Luna lies on their menu. The waitress didn t seem to think there was anything wrong at all with lying on the menu. I wonder what the owner would do if he/she ordered a box of crab meat and opened it and found what they were too embarrassed to put on their menu--- imitation crab meat ? It also makes me wonder what else on their menu is not true? What would you think if you went to the grocery store and bought crab meat and got it home to find out it was fake? I propose to anyone who reads this, spread the word and boycott Bella Luna!
I was very disappointed. Everyone raved about the food but it was very average food service selections with cheese added to the top. Selections were as listed no switching sauces or omitting of any ingredient in any dish which tells me they are not made to order with fresh items. Could say more but will just leave it at I will not be going back, too many really good Italian restaurants in the city.
It was a great meal and a most relaxing atmostpher. The meal I had was great from the bread to the Desert,We will be back again.I will tell my friend about the pleasant time we had on 2|13 The sevice was good the servers covered the different sections if there was a empty plate on the table some picked it up as they walked by. I enjoyed it. Thanks again, Carol
We loved the new regional menu.. the scallops and stuffed pork chops were amazing. this a very romantic restaurant. my date took me here and we shared the bread pudding after dinner. AWESOME!!, but he's gone now, not what i wanted, so i have to find a new man to take me to Bella Luna now. i highly recommend Bella Luna
Great presentation. Service was attentive and thorough. I travel a lot for work and am generally disappointed with service in the U.S. but the Bella Luna experience was great. I had dinner here on a Thursday so things were quieter which made for a much more intimate dinning experience.
This place reminds me of a spot in a Little Italy somewhere! It is funky and warm with a very friendly atmosphere and the ower actually comes around to make sure you are happy! Try the antipasto or the calamari as an appetizer. We ordered from the Regional Menu and were surprised by the different types of food the Italians actually have to offer. The Bread Pudding was so good we asked for one to take home for the next day. The mystery wine bucket allowed us to try new wine without killing our pocketbook. We were there on Friday night and they have entertainment in the bar area. The group was the Bluebirds and it was very enjoyable. This place is worth the trip
Great Italian Food, good deal when you get the VIP club, excellent wine list. One of our favorite restaurants in Cincinnati. It can sometimes be a little loud, but we always have a wonderful dinner and a great evening.
The food was okay, the service was okay. After checking out the menu, one would expect decent silverware, plates, coffee cups etc....They must have gone to every yard sale around to make up the place settings, mismatched coffee mugs, etc. Overpriced also.
