I live in a little pit stop town but this is a great Italian restaurant, it is reasonable, has good food and the people are nice. Hometown businesses are always more personable. Almost like Cheers...everybody knows your name!
This is mid-America at its best. A beautiful drive through hilly Tuscarawas County to reach a long forgotten town that was once a major hub during the 19th century. Denision Yard has real Italian food at great prices; not franchised pre-cooked, re-heated mush. The home-made spaghetti is outstanding, as well as the Bianca Bread. YUM.
It's worth the drive and usual wait to get a table.
The Yahoo map sent me to Center St in Uhrichsville. The good people of Uhrichsville gave me directions to Center St in Dennison, the actual site of the 'Yard'. It's an Italian restaurant/bar/patio seating. Get the homemade spaghetti if you like homemade doughy pasta with a sweet tomato based olive oil sauce. Incredible. And if you're adventurous, try it with the sausage and fresh peppers (hot or mild). They serve it so high with sausages and a variety of peppers that you can't see the spaghetti. Too much to eat in one setting and all for 8.95. Possibly the best dish I've had on the road in years.
Ate there once with my mom.decent food but 2 times now including today..stand in the doorway on both occassions for 10min..the staff including the guy with the reservation clipboard..looks at us but ignores us until a bunch of upper class folks start packing in..then clipboard guy comes over gets there reservation info and turns away not even speaking to us! My mom was like Umm excuse me sir.. I swear those guys overlook you if you don t look a certain way to fit the mold of their OVERRATED restaurant!!! Mind you today was blowoff #2 the other time 5yrs ago when my husband, myself and another couple wanted to celebrate our birthdays..then we stood for 15min..ignored and plenty of staff and open tables but no one acknowledged us..so we sat down.10min go by..had to flag a waitress down..took our drink order..no menus yet..15min later..still no menus..and our drinks were still sitting on the bar.We left.Once again..obviously 5yrs later same sort of situation..i understand being busy but when staff walks right by you..look right at you but no one even says be right with you.. Come on..ridiculous! So if you don t fit the cookie cutter upper class type deal or if you have tattoos..etc..you might not be quite so welcome..Obviously they are making too much money if they can afford to treat people like crap so much so they lose business over it..Go to Jerry s instead if you re in the Uhrichsville/Dennison area..where everyone is respected,welcomed..and the food is great for a decent price..
