Well we had a party of 13 for dinner last saturday evening. The reservation was for 7:30 and we arrived in plenty of time to be seated. after a small wait we were seated and the beverage order were takn and delivered in a timely fashion. The appetizers were ordered and delivered a short time afterwards. Then the waiting began..two hours later our main course was delivered. The food was lukewarm at best and some dishes were not so appealing. Our complaints to the manager (a guy in a t shirt) went unheeded and with out an apology (we all felt bad for our waitress who was wonderful). Suffuce it to say, we will never go back to this restaurant and are telling our friends that for the money, there are far better places to go to get better service and a good meal. My suggestion to the owner of this establishment is to take a good hard look and how he treats his bread and butter (customers), unless of course he is content with provideing mediocre service.
I would have to say that it's probably more accurate to make the rating 2 and a half stars. I hate to say it because our server was excellent, but the food really was average at best and it was horribly overpriced for what you got. We had a party of 5 and no one was overly thrilled with their dinner. The bread was good, the salads were ok and the entrees were mixed. My daughter's mashed potatoes were presented in a beautiful swirl, but they tasted like chemicals, and her chicken was barely edible. As far as the other entrees, they were ok, but the portions were ridiculously small. The desserts, however, were very good. I'm sorry to not have anything better to say, but this was our first visit there, and we definitely will not be returning. Especially with a $130 bill for 5 people and one was ordering off the children's menu (with only one glass of wine ordered too). Absolutely not worth it.
A *marginal* four star rating. If I could give it 3 and 1/2 stars, I would.
Generally I have mixed feelings about Georgio's. Some elements are always outstanding: service, salads/dressings, decent bread with a nice compound butter. And every time I've ordered off of the menu, it has been good to excellent.
Here comes the but ... BUT, having ordered off the specials board four times now, I can say with certainty that it just isn't up to snuff. The dishes are hoaky and don't make much sense at times. The only time I was happy with the food was a fried fish special during Lent (which, by the way, was phenomenally good). Why they don't put that on the regular menu, I have no idea.
Take today's effort ... Southwestern Chicken Pizza. Interesting concept, I thought. Perhaps some cumin seasoned chicken, perhaps some roasted chilis, fire-roasted tomatoes, and some Jack cheese to bring it all together with some fresh cilantro on top. Um, no. Grilled chicken with roasted red & green peppers, chedder cheese, and Kalamata olives. How is this southwestern?
Even worse, nothing but the olives (and cheese) had any seasoning to it. And I'm not talking about cumin, I'm talking about salt & pepper. I tasted individual components of the pizza and literally, no salt. An even more egregious error was the pizza dough itself. Bland and no character. It was truly like eating cardboard. I don't know if they are making the dough on-site or if they are buying it pre-made, but they really need to do something about the dough since they also offer pizzas on the regular menu as well.
If I were rating the restaurant based on the specials only, it would've gotten two stars. The regular menu seems to be what they are good at and you should probably stick to that.
From the food to the service to the general atmosphere, Georgio's is a wonderful place to go for a special evening out or just a great weekday meal. Servers, especially Jen B., were amazing and the food was even better, I suggest dessert... yummy. A wonderful place you can get dressed up for or go in jeans.
