The Iacomini Family first opened their doors in 1932, The heart & soul has been "Papa Joe" Iacomini who passed away in 1998. Those who have gazed into his steel blue eyes, or have watched him tour his restaurants, always searching for ways to improve, know why the Iacomini Family has always been considered the first family of fine & traditional dining in the Akron area. Joe's legacy lives on with the fourth generation of restaurateurs. Judy, his daughter, & her son Jeff, & daughter Kim, continue to try & live up to his standards of excellence. This trio of new culinarians continues to bring you "The Best of Iacomini's"! 2002 marks 70 years of serving the Akron area. From the early days of the Florentine Grill, to present day at Papa Joe's, we say thank you, & to your grandparents, for dining at our restaurants.
Fresh from an evening at Papa Joe's and having had an outstanding meal again, I enjoyed the usual hospitality and fine wines. This time I tried the Baked Sicilian and it lived up to my expectations. Being first generation Sicilian, it reminded me of the Baronessa's (my Mother) sauce and added fine cuts of meat, blended to a delicious baked delight.
Have had many of their meals (steaks seafood & Italian) - all have been excellent. Hot stuffed banana pepper or fried mozzarella appetizer are our favorites. No corking fee on wine from their adjacent wine shop – excellent value especially if you enjoy wine. In 30+ visits we have always had great service – our favorite restaurant.
The atmosphere, the service and the food mixed together make this an ideal restaurant. Service was friendly, speedy and attentive without making you feel rushed. Our server picked me out the perfect glass of wine but just describing to her what I liked. I haven't found a better italian restaurant in the Akron area...so all of you Olive Garden fans, bring your business here, it's better worth your money. The food is fresh, the dining room is cozy and the service is great. You won't be dissapointed.
Papa Joe's is a slightly upscale restaurant in the Northampton neighborhood of Akron. They have some of the best lasagna I've ever had! They give you a serving of bread to start out, but I didn't eat any to save room for the lasagna. We ordered a serving of bruschetta and really enjoyed it. The secret, olive oil. It adds a grease to it that's not disgusting or fattening. I ordered a side salad with italian dressing and it was really good. The lasagna! It is a huge, cheese stuffed, 5 layers of pasta, meat sauced gourmet wonder. It was rich and huge, but I ate most of it. If you're looking for a great place to go for good italian food and you can spend $30 at least per person on dinner, head to Papa Joe's
