Sushi Katsu, Akron

Sushi Katsu is a wonderful little gem in the Merriman Valley that I am have stumbled upon. After living in New York, it is hard for me to find sushi that I consider worthwhile in the NE Ohio area. It just does not usually have the fresh and creative flavors that the authentic NY joints have. Yet, this sushi was outstandingly fresh and the rolls are not only properly prepared, but little works of art! Friendly staff too boot! Finally I found a sushi place to hang my hat on!!!

I would rate Sushi Katsu as average. Lot better Sushi out there. If you are in the Columbus area the absolutely best Sushi is at Akaihana off of Henderson Road. I've had a lot of Sushi and this place is by far the best.

Not bad, not great: I recently moved to Ohio from Colorado, and the first order of business was to find a good sushi establishment nearby. Sushi Katsu is pretty good, but far from the best. Food quality was probably on the order of 4 of 5 stars. Fish is fairly fresh, but not an awful lot of variety (ie if you're looking for Spanish Mackerel or Tasmanian Salmon, or even [pressed] Oshi Sushi you won't find it). With only one sushi chef and one waitress they get pretty behind and slow when busy. Lack of variety and slow service bring this one down to a 3 star. That said I haven't found much better in the area.. yet! EDIT, late 2009 - Kasai in Wadsworth is far superior if you're looking for good stuff and don't mind a little drive.

I would recommend this place for a first timer, but as an experienced sushi goer I will cross this one off my list. The prices are too high for the quality that you get here. I ordered 3 rolls and 2 cans of cola for $30.00. There was wasabi in one of them which was very unpleasant for me. If you want to try really good sushi go to Benne Chopsticks in Pittsburgh PA.

Pricey sushi considering the small size of the toppings. At least half an hour wait between orders as there is only one sushi chef. There is a $1.50 charge for any extra ingredients, even for a small sprinkling of masago on a California roll. The kicker comes at the end when a mandatory 17% tip is added to the bill, even for individual diners. I'll never return here again.

I havent been there in a long while, but last time I was it was as good as the Original Sushi Katsu n Tachikawa, Tokyo, Japan. Which I frequent when I have the time. I would rank Suchi Katsu a 5 Star and Tony one of Akron Finest

All I can say, it's the best in Akron!
