Fat Fish Blue

Description

Fat Fish Blue attempts to offer a slice of New Orleans in downtown Cleveland. Five nights per week, Fat Fish Blue offers live jazz, blues and other southern music, although occasionally this includes a cover at the door. The food is Cajun-influenced and includes specialty entrees like Jackson Square Chicken Napoleon with collard greens, jack cheese, and a lemon sauce, or Alabama Shrimp and Grits. Vegetarians may also enjoy Crescent City Pasta, squash ravioli with tomato. Fat Fish Blue also features several soups, salads, sandwiches and appetizers, like Big Daddy's Gumbo, Southern Fried Chicken, or a Country Cajun burger. - Marjorie Jensen

Fat Fish Blue used to satisfy my needs now and for the last time they will forever be a memory. The last 3 times I dined in I brought my husband and friends and the last 3 times the service was poor. On one occasion they were not even packed but had run out of almost every specialty drink on their menu. They brought my friends burger out red with cold fries, they sat us way in the back away from the live entertainment and like I mentioned they were not packed. The waitress had us calculating and formulating our own checks because she couldn't remember who ordered what. The manager came out and offered us all either a round of drinks or a dessert. We opted for the dessert and he sent out 3 desserts for a party of 6. My husband and I went a few last weekend 10/15/11 to see some entertainment and I purchased a groupon. The deal was a free appetizer and two tickets for any show. I called in and the person who made our reservations by the name of Carrie told me Fat Fish Blue will not waive my cover charge with the groupon. She informed us to just come before 7pm and we would not have to pay cover charge anyway. She explained that those were drink tickets with up to a $9.99 value each. She even put me on hold to double check with the other so called staff & management. I made the reservations and we showed up. Once we arrived of course no one knows anything evening the flaming staff member who was acting like Charles in Charge. I asked for a manager and was approached by one of the Owners, I even got another waitress to validate what I was saying because she was standing next to the person while she was reserving my table and giving me that information. He said there was nothing he could do but offer me two passes for free to any show. Ok well if I can just come in earlier and avoid the cover charge why would I need free passes? So I called in an attempt to speak with the other owner Steve, he was very nonchalant about the fact his staff misinformed me and replied with "Well you want me to fire Carrier because she's stupid?" And at that point he exceeded my expectations. Definitely has lost customers and I will let everyone in my circle know about it. If you can give your money to an establishment they should have a concern for your treatment, service and respect you for their livelihood.

I must say the main reason I go to FFB is for the Bisque. I love the Bisque, hate the service. I really think FFB is going to have to dig a little deeper and find a better wait staff. On two occasions My husband and I were treated so poorly he vowed to never come back. I miss that soup!! Get it together Fat Fish Blue!!

On Nov. 7th. at about 7:30 in the evening had the displeasure of trying to dine at the restaurant. There was 7 in our party, granted the place was busy. We placed our orders and waited for our meals and waited and waited and waited., I finally asked to see the manager, a young lady came to our table and I asked her was taking so long. She seemed kind of smug and snippy with the answer, saying they were very busy in the kitchen, that our order was placed 43 minutes ago, that was reasonable, that it usually takes about an hour to prepare the dinners. So we sat and waited some more and she was right about an hour into our placing the order the dinners finally came. Needless to say, this was way to long a time to have to wait before getting ones food, concluding that most of us ordered sandwichs. I would say they have to hire more chefs and kitchen help if it takes that long just to get sandwichs. True they are not Mickey D's with premade food but an hour to make sandwichs, come on !!!! We will in no way be going back to this restaurant anytime soon !!!!!!! Oh yes and the sandwichs weren't that good either, maybe we should have went to Mickey D's. NOT !!!

Came in for the weekend and read good reviews. Celebrated a friend's b-day there with a group and we had a great time. Crayons on the table to draw while drinking awesome drinks can be dangerous, lol. Food is soooo good and portions are very good! Would love to have one of these places in NYC!

Then Some Guy called himself the owner came over waving his rainbow flag telling me I didn't know my southern cooking?????WHAT...Gumbo isnt a soup its a rich rice dish....Get it right...Then when they brought it out...I swear someone spit in it...I will never step foot in that dirty dungeon again...Shame on you for letting your employee's do things like that...with an attitude like that, they wont stay long...BEWARE

Bad Service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/21/08
We were out and about and walking around the streets of Cleveland on a Saturday evening trying to find a place to go hang out and have a few drinks. We got there and had to pay a cover charge of $15.00 per person which was expensive to just set at the bar and then once we were ready to leave, we had to set and wait to pay our check for 25 minutes! We had WARM draft beer and the service was terrible. I probably wouldn't go back there. Not sure how the food was. You be the judge.

Lousiana food, very slowly served
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/20/08
Like the other reviewer, we were put off by the BAD service. Since it is one of the few places to get gumbo and crawfish, you sort of have to put up with the service to get Cajun food. This has the potential to be a great restaurant. It's disappointing.

Don't like it
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/24/08
I had my graduation dinner there and I've been there before, both experiences for me were bad. The food took forever to come out and the staff didn't seem to care that we were so inconvenienced. When the food finally did come out it was not very good. It seemed overcooked, and just plain not good. I would not go there again and I do not recommend that anyone else does unless they want to spend money on mediocre food.

A really fun place to pop in for lunch or dinner. Kids will enjoy playing with the fun surprises in their napkin, and will enjoy trying new foods. The music is amazing, so try to stop in when the live music is playing! Service is pretty good, but try to give yourself a few extra minutes if you're trying to fit your visit in on your lunch hour. They will take call ahead orders and have it ready when you get there.
