Handke's Cuisine, Columbus

Harmut Handkey was one of the only Master Chefs in the United States that served to the public. His restaurant was emasculate and obviously a labor of love. Chef Handke won several international awards include the Bocuse d'Or. The food was incredible in taste and in price. Their wine list was topped by no other business in Columbus. The atmosphere, a converted wine cellar in the Brewery District, couldn't be beat. Service was top notch and the overall experience was something I greatly miss. Handke's was THE place for important dinner outings. Chef Handke retired and like most business run with love and passion, it soon closed under its new ownership.

This was an excellent restaurant inspired by an amazing chef. He retired from the business, and a new set of hands couldn't make a go of it after they took over in July 2008. Handke's Cuisine was closed for business June 20,2009. We will miss it dearly.

Everything about Handkes Cuisine is just splendid ! Handkes Cuisine offers the rare experience of distinctive dining. From the minute you walk in, you'll know why this is the most wonderful place .

A beautiful restaurant, first-class in every respect. The main dining room is accessed by a long flight of stairs, so be aware of this if that could be a problem. Beautiful presentation of food prepared under the watchful eye of a world-class chef, who represented the USA at the Bocuse d'Or international competition. Expensive for Columbus restaurants, but well worth it. Maybe the best food in Ohio. Certainly the most interesting pairings of vegetables, exotic mushrooms, and unusual meat dishes.

I have eaten at high end establishments all over the US as well as Europe. Even with that, I can say that my meals at Handke's Cuisine are easily in the top 5 of any meals I have had in my life. I would like to Thank You Chef Handke for continuing to offer some of the finest dinning in Columbus, Ohio.

We are so lucky that Chef Handke decided to come to Columbus and open his own restaurant! The ambiance, the menu, the service and the staff's friendliness are second to none. This is the best romantic restaurant in Columbus. This is also the best special occasion restaurant! In addition to the wonderful choices on the menu, you can always count on several tempting specials. I've spent many wonderful evenings at Handke's and I hope you will too!

I LOVE Handke's. The food is some of the best fare in C-bus. The prices are high, but it's nothing that you wouldn't expect from a restaurant of this caliber. Take my word for this...TRY THE BUFFALO! It is Chef Handke's specialty, and not on the menu. Every once in a while they will feature it as a special when they have bought more cuts than the regulars are consuming. It's best eaten rare, or medium rare if you insist. The atmosphere is really one-of-a-kind. There is a history to the building, and it is the perfect place to bring a date, or for a formal business meeting. However, I'm not sure the intimate atmosphere is that accommodating for large groups, but I can say that I've never had sub-par service there. They have a good wine list, but it's not the most extensive I've seen. There is a traditional Captain's List and the like. For desert, I'd try the poached peach. There is no question about this one, Handke's is fine dining at its best.

Without a doubt, world-class fair. From the cream of white asparagus soup, to the duck confit amuse bouche, to his Bocuse d'Or winning bison, to his ethereal creme brulee; everything was absolutely superb. Not enough superlatives to do justice to it.

Liked the atmosphere. It was non typical. It was locater in the basement of a renovated turn of the century German style brewery

Handkes is a hidden gem. From the outside it looks like nothing, in fact I didn't even know it existed. On the inside it is five stars. Food, Service, Ambiance all outstanding. However, the greatness comes with a price tag. Expect around $150 per couple for dinner, drinks and dessert.
