Whaler's Catch Restaurant
Whaler's Catch is located in the Historic Johnson Building on Second Street in Paducah, Kentucky. Like the Johnson building, Whaler's Catch has a rich and varied past. Commonly known as Whaler's by local Paducahans, the first-of-its-kind fresh seafood restaurant and fish market was started in 1977 by Roberta Shelby Morse. In 1991, the restaurant was purchased by John Harris who carried on Roberta's traditional fare offering daily fresh seafood selections. In early 1996, the 59 year old building that housed Whaler's Catch burned, causing major structural damage. As a result, John Harris opted to move the restaurant to its present location in historic downtown Paducah. Members of the Catch Crew invite you to enjoy our beautifully restored, historic setting, the casual New Orleans ambiance and fine dining that truly make Whalers Catch a local treasure.
I don't know anybody in their right mind that could compare this superb eatery with nasty Long Johns or any fast food joint. I get to eat here maybe 3 times a year and it is my fav. place in the world to eat. You get what you pay for folks. Great food! I confess I go mainly for the raw oysters but I try other dishes as well and I have never been let down. Potato casserole is my fav. side. They make a good stout drink, and all the people there are friendly and do the best they can. I will be there this weekend I am so thrilled!! Btw Long Johns gives my husband the runs. Not at Whaler's! The menu has a LOT to choose from. So if you don't want it fried don't get it fried! Just take a gander if you are a foodie like me you will love this place!
I remember when Whalers was a great place to go get great food, but here in the past years it seems it me it's all FRIED and I can do that at home with seafood from Kroger! Oh, and please somebody tell them to lay off the salt! Salt and fried....hum....I guess I'll be going to Long John Silvers or Captain D's from now on.
We drove 70 miles just to go to Whalers Catch craving their Conch Fritters all the way, just to get there and find that they had discontinued the menu item. The waitress said that they were hardly ever ordered because they were at the very top of the menu and that they were hardly ever seen. We bragged to everyone in our little town about the Conch Fritters and they said that they would have to drive the distance to try them. Maybe a better attemp should have been made to advertise or even set up samples so that all the people that attended Downtown after Dinner would have known how great this item was. If you have decided not to ever serve this item again please send me the recipe so i can show my friends exactly what they missed.
I don't know about all these other peoples reviews but in my opinion, this place is the best seafood place in town. They are one of 2 places that serve fried alligator tail (one of my favorite dishes) and their stuffed shrimp is superb. Everything I have ever had there had been good. I do wish they would bring back their brown bread instead of serving the bagette now. Pricing IS a little high but so is every other restaurant.
This is the best place in town to eat. The seafood is always fresh, the steaks are supurb! Also, I can never eat everything with my meal. I never go away hungry!! And they have the best margaritas in town. For the warmer days, they have a great seating area outside, where you can overlook the river. The staff is very friendly, and the atmosphere is great. You won't be disappointed when you leave.
