One time was one too many!!!! Fish was not done for one in our party, my soup was cool and the Paducah Hot brown was anything but hot. The restrooms were in need of updating and cleaning. The manager's interaction was less than professional!! We should have listened when we were told not to eat at this establishment!! Sent my food back uneaten, strolled down the road for icecream. We will not return to CC Cohen!!
This restaurant has been around for YEARS and has a loyal following. It is very attractive from the street. Upon arrival, you'll notice the original bar and beautiful wood work. HOWEVER, the filthy dirty mirrors on the vaulted ceiling; the dust and FOOD COVERED mini-blinds. The chairs must be original from when the place opened - very uncomfortable; the tattered and torn vinyl table cloths; not to mention the grease-caked carpet surrounding the raised seating area. If you want to enjoy your experience, you may want to go at night, when it is dark so you can't see. They keep the restaurant dark for a reason. Don't go in during the day, the filth will cause you lose your appetite. They should consider a remodel and I'm not going back until they do.
My wife and I had reservations for a Saturday night at 7:30. Our table was waiting. The hostess was pleasant and a joy to meet. Our server was not very familiar with the foods being served but was very nice, none the less. She kept our drinks full and was present when we needed her. The prime rib and ribeye was great and the pecan pie and chocolate moose was superb.
Maybe we came on a bad day.
First, the good stuff: Great atmosphere -- complete with a ghost story. We order 2 different kinds of soups, and both were excellent. They also make an excellent Bloody Mary.
But everything else was bad.
Waitress was unfriendly and sullen. Steak was overdone and mostly gristle. The menu offered no description of the Fisherman's Platter, but we believed it would be a sampling of the grilled seafoods mentioned on the page above -- not so! It was ALL fried, unidentifiable mush, except for the cold peel & eat shrimp (those were OK).
I would not recommend this restaurant unless you stick with a simple soup and Bloody Mary lunch.
We never actually ate here. When we walked in, there were three servers and another man chatting by the hostess station. The hostess was in the station itself. Absolutely none of them acknowledged us when we walked in. When we walked over to the hostess station, she said, “Two?” and came out with menus, leading us to a table against the wall near the bar. I think there were three other couples in the restaurant so there were plenty of empty tables. When I asked her if we could have a table near the window, she looked over to those tables and said, “Oh, OK.” When we sat down she said our server would be right over. The place had an unpleasant smell. I also didn’t get a good feeling about the lack of attention from the wait staff and I suggested to my husband that we leave. In the minute or two that we sat at the table, no one came over. The group stayed by the hostess station, chatting away. When we walked out, they continued to ignore us. No one asked us if anything was wrong or if they could help in any way. We wound up going back to Max’s, where we had a wonderful meal and even better service. And after reading many of the other reviews on this site, I'm very glad we didn't stay at C.C. Cohen.
