Alfalfa Restaurant, Lexington

I've eaten at Alfalfa's several times and the service is always bad. Lunch took over an hour to be served. My sandwich was good,but not worth the hour wait. Limited hours too. Difficult to find parking.

The food is good and it's a shame that they can't offer better service. I've been a half dozen times and I would rate the service as poor. My waiters didn't get the order right (simple off the menu) and forgot things like silverware. The wait for food can be as long as 1 hour for a basic sandwich. I keep going back thinking that it will get better, but it does not. Very sad.

Alfalfa's has become, after repeated visits, one of my Lexington staples. With a variety of international influences as well as healthy options and a great range of meals, its food is well-suited for all but the finicky eater. While NOT a good place to find American/diner cuisine or an upscale, elitist environment, the waitstaff is very friendly and helpful, with a thorough knowledge of the food served (seeing as they help to prepare much of it themselves!). The ambiance is certainly not sleek or Metropolitain, rather, homey, down-to-earth and worldly. PERFECT for a festive meal with family and friends or an inexpensive, casual date-night option.

yes, the waiters weren't uniformed, but they are helpful, attentive, and friendly; they also seemed able and willing to answer any question pertaining to my childs special dietary needs, as he has extensive allergies. even on the busy day that I went in, our server was willing to answer questions and ask the chef when she wasn't sure. Also, i found the menu pricing to be very reasonable; the lunch menu is downright cheap! the food was wonderful, and the chef was flexible enough to come up with a wonderful dish for my little one! I would go again and again if i still lived in lexington!

The wait staff was slovenly and their clothes were dirty. Impossible to overlook. The person who brought breakfast to the table was holding a plate against his chest sort of under his arm (pit) with his fingers on the plate. We had to send it back. Nauseating. We had to wait about 10 minutes after being seated to get coffee. Because of the dirty staff, we were apprehensive about eating the food thinking the kitchen must be horrendous. I suggested the restaurant but was not picking up the bill and embarrassed to have suggested it. The menu and the food looked, sounded good. My date couldn't eat once served for fear of getting sick. Poor management of resources. We're not overly critical but this was ridiculous, an insult to customers, and waste of good food, and our time and money. Management should be called on the carpet.

The food is terrible I will eat just about anything, and this shrimp dish 2 nights ago just about made me gag. We ended up leaving and going somewhere else

Daily specials are always a gold mine at Alfalfa's. Thai omelets, sweet potatoe gnocchi, lamb curry, and my recent personal favorite: chili over cheesy cornbread with sour cream. In addition, the brunch is a hit even with locals who are skeptical of an erroneous "rabbit food" reputation; I recommend the gravel switch breakfast. As others have mentioned, the service can be hit or miss. While the far-from-uniformed servers add to the atmosphere, they sometimes seem spaced out and forgetful.

There isn't one negative word that ties into Alfalfa! Incredible food, service, atmostphere, and performers. I would be there everyday if possible! Great for vegetarians!

Alfalfas food is certainly innovative by Lexington standards. And while it gets tops stars for the artsy ambience and the downtown location the food could use a bit of work. But still its a great deal for the price and I hear its a lexington institution.

The food is not any better than average. Value is not either. Of course vegiterian dishes exist, but nothing impressive.
