Le Relais Restaurant, Louisville

My wife and I visited Le Relais having a fantastic dinner in every sense. The waitress was extremely attentive and friendly. The food was superb to the last detail. We were orginally worried about going there because of some of the previous reviews, but thought we would find out for ourselves. If you got the same food/service we did then you would want to go back again & again. Two thumbs up!!

Out of all of the great restaurants in Louisville I chose Le Relais for my birthday dinner. I love the atmosphere and have been going since I was a little girl when it housed the How Kow (sp) restaurant. The server was rude but that was not the worst. I ordered the steak au poivre medium rare, you know red hot center. It came to me med to med well with a touch of pink. It was my birthday and expensive so I sent it back, something I don't usually do. Have been in the food industry and know you are just to tell the chef what the customer wants. As my husband began his dinner while I waited, the owner/manager came to my table with the plate I had sent back and began to argue with me about the difference between med and med rare. I told him I wanted it cooked med rare with red center, he said in a threatening tone, that he was going to take it to the kitchen and have them to cook it rare, I said, fine, ordered more rare to begin with. It was certainly not what I expected from this restaurant. His attitude was awful, I will not be back until I hear it is under new ownership/management.

We visited Sunday evening arriving 5 minutes prior to our reservation. Upon entering the front door we did not see the Maitre D€™ and waited there for a few moments until someone greeted us. Since we arrived early our table was not ready and we had to wait in the Lobby. Our waiter was neither friendly or helpful. For an appetizer we had a 1 inch slice of cold hard stale bread and some butter. For the drink a complimentary glass of water. There were 2 items we wanted to order but they ran out so we had to choose something more costly and less desirable which arrived practically raw red after we ordered it well done. There was no soap to wash hands with in the men's room. If your looking for a quite romantic French restaurant good luck, this place was wall to wall with loud obnoxious drunks. We were disappointed because we expected more from such an expensive and highly rated restaurant.
