I proposed to my Wife on the Dinner Train 16 years ago. I bought the third seat so that we had our own table. I had red roses waiting for her. When I got opn my knee and proposed, the whole train erupted in applause. It was a wonderful memory. Her birthday is coming up im May and I may take her there for a nice memory.
I have nothing negative to say about the Dinner Train. The only thing better than the hospitality and service, was the food! It is a unique fine dining experience. With the four course meal, we were not able to eat it all. We enjoyed the generous portion of prime rib.
Ill aways remember this experince. You feel like you live in the 40's. The food was wonderful. I had the primerib dinner . My wife had the same and could not eat all of her dinner .The service was very good . We were very pleased . The price was a little high. But it something you dont forget.
My first 'not so good' experience was getting a cocktail in the Depot....would you believe $7.00, and it was a weak drink~~!!
Meal: Salad was mediocre, the Prime Rib was overdone (ordered medium, got well), my spouse got the Hot Brown and the only way you could know it was a hot brown was because that's what she ordered. The dessert, shortcake was almost like eating sugar. Certainly not a GOURMET meal!!!!
The trip: The brochure states a 38 mile ride.
My calculations are that it is approx. 13 miles from Bardstown to I65 and the ride ended about at the Jim Beam Distillery which I figure might be 10-11 miles from Bardstown...so double that and you get close to a 21 mile excursion. And I had a window seat and looked for the trestle and never did recognize having gone over it????
On the good side, the decor was super, very elegant and well done. Also had a lovely couple as our Dinner mates, very pleasant folk's.
Although I'm glad we went, been going to do it for a long time. We won't be going back as I find it extremely overpriced for what you get. We did the Lunch trip, so ~$60 is a pretty expensive lunch! CJ from Louisville
Had a great time, our group of 25 enjoyed ouselves, heard no one complain about anything. Prime rib was delicious. Waitress was new but did a great job of taking care of everyone. Since I am a railroad buff, I had the opportunity to talk to the engineer, who answered all my questions, then chatted about railroading. Next time I am in Kentucky I will go back for another fine meal and a great time. Cary Hampton Va
Took the KY Dinner Train lunch Saturday July 28, 2007 and loved it! I cannot think of a single thing that needed changing. The Prime Rib was as good as any I have ever had and the service was the same. I would recommend this to anyone. The dining car was beautiful and very handicap accessible for anyone. Well worth the money.
Service, food, and ambience were simply outstanding. Would do it again tomorrow.
They were there definitely to please...they could match any upscale restaurant in the country. It was a lot of fun.
Thanks it was a lovely evening
for my family.
